These data represent reproductive ecology characteristics for 4 species of mature female turtles captured at Elephant Butte Reservoir on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico, during two field survey periods in June 2012 and 2013. Data were collected on female reproductive ecology including clutch size, egg size, timing of egg production, and the percentage of reproductive females using X-radiography. The purpose of these data are to add to the deficient information on the reproductive ecology of four turtle species at the Elephant Butte Reservoir on the Rio Grande and Black River in New Mexico. Data contained in this worksheet were analyzed to determine clutch and egg sizes for four native species of turtles (Apalone...
A global geography of basinwide trapping of suspended sediment flux by the large reservoirs. A total of 236 regulated basins with 633 large reservoirs (> 0.5 km3 maximum storage capacity), which collectively represent about 70% of registered impoundment storage volume was used to estimate basinwide relative loss of suspended sediment destined for the world's oceans. For the purposes of display, the basins include both discharging and non-discharging portions of the land mass. A total of approximately 25-30% of pre-disturbance sediment flux is sequestered by modern impoundments, most built since 1950 (Vorosmarty et al. 2003, Syvitski et al. 2005). The sediment trapping indicator is computed as: R = 0.67 * MaxCapacity...
This dataset contains the physical collection information (e.g., sample location, date, gear type) and microsatellite DNA genotype of egg and larval Lake Sturgeon collected in the St. Clair and Detroit rivers in 2015 and 2016. Individuals were genotyped for 18 microsatellite loci (13 disomic and 5 polysomic). Alleles (base pair sizes) were recorded as presence absence scores (1:present, 2:absent, 0:missing data) for all previously observed alleles. Thus individual genotypes were recorded as pseudo diploid dominant phenotypes resulting in individual vectors of length n=205 for each genotyped egg or larval individual.

Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) control is achieved in tributaries to the Laurentian Great Lakes by applying lamprey-specific pesticides (lampricide) to habitats containing larval sea lamprey. Lampricide treatments are cheaper and more effective in watersheds where dams block runs of adult sea lamprey and hence limit the distribution of sea lamprey larvae. However, dams impound water and those without fishways block movement of valued fishes, outcomes that are untenable for some stakeholders. Here, an alternative to physical barriers was tested to block adult sea lamprey; a portable and seasonal non-physical barrier of pulsed direct current that does not impound water, allows fish passage when not operated, and...
The role of lynx dispersal in maintaining their populations at the landscape scale is unclear. A large proportion of local lynx populations are known to disperse following a snowshoe hare population crash, but whether these dispersal events contribute to the cyclic dynamics of neighboring populations is not well understood. If lynx dispersal does play an important role in lynx population dynamics then the conservation of dispersal corridors is critical to maintaining those dynamics. However, we currently have no information on the habitat requirements of dispersing lynx in relation to human land use, such as housing developments, road building, timber harvest, and mining, all of which could have a substantial impact...
