This data set includes WRTDS nutrient flux trend results and the values of daily streamflow trend results displayed in the Quantile-Kendall plots. For 1995-2015 nutrient trends, the method of generalized flow normalization (FNG) was used which explicitly addresses non-stationary streamflow conditions. For 2005-2015 nutrient trends, the WRTDS trend analyses used the method of stationary flow normalization (FNS) because streamflow nonstationarity is difficult to assess over this shorter duration time frame. Data provided in this release support the findings in Choquette et al. (2019), utilizing methods for evaluating water-quality and daily-streamflow trends described also in Hirsch and DeCicco (2015 and 2018a) and Hirsch (2018). The trend results and model-input data focus on 10 locations in the Lake Erie watershed that have long-term (20 or more years) water-quality and streamflow monitoring records. The trend results include the years 1987 through 2016 or specified sub-periods during this time frame. Median summer water yields and resultant flows are used in Michigan to regulate large water withdrawals to help prevent negative effects on characteristic fish populations. Large water withdrawals commonly are associated with irrigation in rural areas. In an earlier statewide report, an index-flow statistic for the period of record, defined as the median flow during the summer month of lowest flow, was used to characterize median summer flows and associated water yields. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Mission Area (WMA) is working to address a need to understand where the Nation is experiencing water shortages or surpluses relative to the demand by delivering routine assessments of water supply and demand. Geothermal well data from Southern Methodist University (SMU, 2021) and the U.S. Geological Survey (Sass et al., 2005) were used to create maps of estimated background conductive heat flow across the greater Great Basin region of the western US. The heat flow maps in this data release were created using a process that sought to remove hydrothermal convective influence from predictions of background conductive heat flow. These data represent key phenology trends across the western United States from 1982-2016. Using two remote sensing datasets, CMGLSP and VIPPHEN-EVI2, trends were calculated for four phenology variables: Start of Season (SOS), Peak Instantaneous Rate of Green-Up Date (PIRGd), Peak of Season (POS), and End of Season (EOS). The Theil-Sen slope and standard deviation were applied to the phenology metrics to evaluate how phenology dates and variation in those dates have changed through time. The Mann-Kendall test was also applied to give an indication of trend significance. Lastly, we include the mean and standard deviation of each metric across the time period.

Trends in nutrient fluxes and streamflow for selected tributaries in the Lake Erie watershed were calculated using monitoring data at 10 locations. Trends in flow-normalized nutrient fluxes were determined by applying a weighted regression approach called WRTDS (Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Season). Site information and streamflow and water-quality records are contained in 3 zipped files named as follows: INFO (site information), Daily (daily streamflow records), and Sample (water-quality records). The INFO, Daily (flow), and Sample files contain the input data, by water-quality parameter and by site as .csv files, used to run trend analyses.
