This data release contains data on historical water use, spatial land disturbance, and spatial aquifer disturbances related to in situ recovery (ISR) uranium extraction per unit of uranium produced. These data were compiled from published and publicly available references including journal articles, government reports, industry reports and company reporting documents for regulatory compliance and financial reporting requirements. Six uranium ISR mines are represented: Alta Mesa, Kingsville Dome, Mt. Lucas, Palangana, Palangana Dome, and Rosita.

The risks to wildlife and humans from uranium (U) mining to the Grand Canyon watershed are largely unknown. In addition to U, other co-occurring ore constituents contribute to risks to biological receptors depending on their toxicological profiles. This data was collected to characterize the pre-mining concentrations of total arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), nickel (Ni), selenium (Se), thallium (Tl), U, and zinc (Zn); radiation levels; and histopathologies in biota (vegetation, invertebrates, amphibians, birds, and mammals) at the Canyon Mine.

Improved understanding of the innovative pathways of renewable energy technologies is vital if we are to make the transition to a low carbon economy. This study presents new evidence on innovation and industry dynamics in concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies. Though CSP is undergoing a renaissance, existing innovation studies have explored innovative activity in solar technologies in general, ignoring the major differences between solar photovoltaic and CSP technologies. This study, based on patent data, examines the level and dynamics of innovative activity in CSP between 1978 and 2004. Our unique contribution, based on engineering expertise and detailed datawork, is a classification system mapping CSP...

This dataset comprises water quality results from monitoring sites on major tributaries of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon region beginning in 2015. These tributary sites include Little Colorado River above the mouth near Desert View, Arizona (USGS site ID 09402300); Kanab Creek above the mouth near Supai, Arizona (USGS site ID 09403850); Havasu Creek above the mouth near Supai, Arizona (USGS site ID 09404115); House Rock Wash below Emmett Wash in Rider Canyon, Arizona (USGS site ID 363851111482000); and Paria River at Lees Ferry, Arizona (USGS site ID 09382000). Monitoring of the Little Colorado River, Kanab Creek, and Havasu Creek sites began in 2015, with other sites added later.

The data consists of a summary of amphibian acoustic recordings at Canyon, Arizona 1, and Pinenut mines near the Grand Canyon. USGS is currently conducting biological surveys associated with uranium mines on federal lands in Arizona. These surveys include determining the composition of the local amphibian community. Original raw acoustic recordings used to create this summary data table are archived at Columbia Environmental Research Center.

Two Saphymo AlphaE radon (Rn) detectors, with a measurement range of 0.54 picoCuries per liter of air (pCi/L) to 270 nanoCuries per liter of air (nCi/L), were deployed from October 2015 thru May 2016 in publicly accessible areas adjacent to the Pinenut uranium mine located in northern Arizona. One monitor was installed in close proximity to the mine vent and a second monitor was installed in close proximity to the ore pile. In late December 2015, a third AlphaE Rn detector was deployed adjacent to the ore-pile monitor. Measurement frequency was 3 times per hour and a time-lapse camera was installed in close proximity to the ore pile to record relative size and activity of the ore pile during mining and early reclamation....
