The SSURGO database contains information about soil as collected by the National Cooperative Soil Survey over the course of a century. The information can be displayed in tables or as maps and is available for most areas in the United States and the Territories, Commonwealths, and Island Nations served by the USDA-NRCS. The information was gathered by walking over the land and observing the soil. Many soil samples were analyzed in laboratories. The maps outline areas called map units. The map units describe soils and other components that have unique properties, interpretations, and productivity. The information was collected at scales ranging from 1:12,000 to 1:63,360. More details were gathered at a scale of 1:12,000...

This dataset is a modified version of the FWS developed data depicting “Highly Important Landscapes”, as outlined in Memorandum FWS/AES/058711 and provided to the Wildlife Habitat Spatial analysis Lab on October 29th 2014. Other names and acronyms used to refer to this dataset have included: Areas of Significance (AoSs - name of GIS data set provided by FWS), Strongholds (FWS), and Sagebrush Focal Areas (SFAs - BLM). The BLM will refer to these data as Sagebrush Focal Areas (SFAs). Data were provided as a series of ArcGIS map packages which, when extracted, contained several datasets each. Based on the recommendation of the FWS Geographer/Ecologist (email communication, see data originator for contact information)...

The Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC, https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog) is a partnership that provides applied science and decision support tools to assist natural resource managers conserve plants, fish and wildlife in the mid- and short-grass prairie of the southern Great Plains. It is part of a national network of public-private partnerships — known as Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs, http://www.fws.gov/science/shc/lcc.html) — that work collaboratively across jurisdictions and political boundaries to leverage resources and share science capacity. The Great Plains LCC identifies science priorities for the region and helps foster science that addresses these priorities to support...

The Hydrology Point Feature Class defines natural/semi natual point hydrographic features (springs, seeps, tanks, guzzlers…) on RSL. The data for this point feature class was provided by the refuge.

These data identify, in general, multiple species occurrences within jurisdiction of the Carlsbad Fish and Wildlife Office. The database was initially created to map locations of threatened and endangered species which require a survey report under Section 10 of the Endangered Species Act. The database has been expanded to include a few other species of interest.

Researchers collect species occurrence data, records of an organism at a particular time in a particular place, as a primary or ancillary function of many biological field investigations. Presently, these data reside in numerous distributed systems and formats (including publications) and are consequently not being used to their full potential. As a step toward addressing this challenge, the Core Science Analytics, Synthesis, and Libraries (CSAS&L) program of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is developing Biodiversity Information Serving Our Nation (BISON), an integrated and permanent resource for biological occurrence data from the United States. BISON will leverage the accumulated human and infrastructural resources...

This data layer depicts the external boundaries of lands and waters that are approved for acquisition by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in North America, U.S. Trust Territories and Possessions. The primary source for this information is the USFWS Realty program.

This dataset contains vegetation and land cover information for Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge. It was created by visual interpretation and classification of aerial photography (National Agriculture Imagery Program) acquired in August 2014. Specifically, the NAIP imagery was segmented into polygons using eCognition Developer 9.0 software. Each segment was then classified by visually interpreting the aerial imagery. The interpretation process was facilitated by field data and geotagged field photos that were taken on the property in October 2014. No accuracy assessment was performed due to a limitation in the number of available ground control points.

This product was derived from a clipped portion of the ~3m spatial resolution National Elevation Dataset. The National Elevation Dataset (NED) is the primary elevation data product produced and distributed by the USGS. The NED provides the best available public domain raster elevation data of the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and territorial islands in a seamless format. The NED is derived from diverse source data, processed to a common coordinate system and unit of vertical measure. All NED data are distributed in geographic coordinates in units of decimal degrees, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). All elevation values are provided in units of meters, and are referenced...

This USFWS data set has been clipped by NatureServe to include critical habitat only within the Central Basin and Range, and Mojave Basin and Range ecoregions, and extracted to include only the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) critical habitat areas. These data identify, in general, the areas where final critical habitat exist for species listed as endangered or threatened.

This dataset depicts vegetation and landcover at a broad scale for Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It was created through interpretation of aerial imagery (NAIP orthophotography) acquired in August 2014 by the USDA. Ecognition software was then used to create segments of the imagery and those segments were manually classified by a GIS Analyst with the help of refuge biologists and staff with expert knowledge of the local conditions. The GIS Analyst also made a reconnaissance trip to the area in the fall of 2014 to assist with image interpretation. No systematically collected field data were available to create a classification at a finer level, such as the Alliance or Associate level and so this product does...

The Hydrology Line Feature Class defines linear hydrographic features on RSL and in the region of hydrologic influence (RHI). The line feature class is composed of NHD Plus streams outside of the refuge borders in the region of hydrologic influence (RHI) and more detailed digitzed canals, ditches and streams on RSL based off 2010 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) 10 meter aerial imagery.

The Blueprint analysis, maps, and data on this site represent the level of value – high or medium – of healthy natural resources and their potential to benefit fish, wildlife and plants. It is part of our effort to reach beyond our Region’s conservation community’s to begin talking with a range of groups about areas that have value for conservation. This information is crafted to help us get a glimpse of the of the Region as we think about emerging trends, better planning and better conversations with everyone who has a stake in what the Southeast Region might look like in 2060. Private lands identified on the map may be good candidates for voluntary conservation programs, which help keep working lands working....
