This metadata is for the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial database for Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site (PUHE) , Island of Hawai'i and surrounding areas. This project is authorized as part of the USGS/NPS Vegetation Inventory Program. The program is being administered by the National Park Service's (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Program in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This mapping effort was performed by Cogan Technology Inc. (CTI) under contract to the Pacific Island Inventory and Monitoring Network (UCBN) of the National Park Service.
Russell Cave National Monument Vegetation Data
The vegetation units on this map were determined through a series of image processing steps including unsupervised classification, ecological modeling and stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling and ecological analysis. The vegetation boundaries were identified on the photographs by means of the photographic signature and collateral information on slope, hydrology, geography, and vegetation in accordance with the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). The mapped vegetation reflects conditions that existed during the specific year and season that the aerial photographs were taken. High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. Vegetation at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area/Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument and environs was mapped and classified by a combination of field plot data collected in 2004 and photointerpreted from 1:12000 scale infrared aerial photography acquired in 2002. The protocols and standards used are those described in the National Vegetation Program documents.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release contains tree-core, soil-gas, and soil data collected at the Vienna Wells Superfund site in Vienna, Missouri by the U.S. Geological Survey between 2011 and 2016. Concentrations of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) are reported for each sample in each medium. Tree-core sampling was conducted over two days (July 29, 2014 and May 21, 2015). Trees sampled on July 29, 2014 were used to calculate concentration centroids for each tree to compare with concentration centroids in soil samples. This data set includes the relative production scenarios for eight (8) grass species based on linear models from Epstein, et al. (1998). We selected two indicator species for each community: shortgrass prairie: blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis; BOGR) and buffalo grass (Bouteloua dactyloides; BODA); mixedgrass prairie: sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula; BOCU) and little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium; SCSC); tallgrass prairie: big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii; ANGE) and Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans; SONU); and semiarid grasslands: black grama (Bouteloua eriopoda; BOER) and tobosagrass (Pleuraphis mutica; PLMU). Metrics for resiliency, including unvegetated to vegetated ratio (UVVR), marsh elevation, and tidal range are calculated for smaller units delineated from a digital elevation model, providing the spatial variability of physical factors that influence wetland health. The U.S. Geological Survey has been expanding national assessment of coastal change hazards and forecast products to coastal wetlands with the intent of providing Federal, State, and local managers with tools to estimate the vulnerability and ecosystem service potential of these wetlands....

This layer represents the scorecard of one indicator of ecosytem integrity. This ecosystem assessment is for SNK 2010 landscape condtion (LCM). NatureServe’s ecological integrity framework provides a practical approach to organize criteria and indicators for this purpose (Faber-Langendoen et al. 2006, Unnasch et al. 2008). This framework provides a scorecard for reporting on the ecological status of a given CE within a given location, and if needed, facilitates the aggregation and synthesis of the component results for broader measures of ecological integrity at broader scales.
