Faunal characteristics of the Southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico: implications for biodiversity analysis and assessment

To define the faunal context within which local and regional resource management decisions are made, conservation of biological diversity requires an understanding of regional species occurrence patterns. Our study focused on the Southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico and included the San Juan, the Sangre de Cristo, and the Jemez Mountains. The Chesapeake Bay Multispecies Monitoring and Assessment Program (ChesMMAP)

In general, ChesMMAP is fishery-independent monitoring survey that uses a large-mesh bottom trawl to sample late juvenile-to-adult fishes in the mainstem of Chesapeake Bay. This program currently provides data on relative abundance, length, weight, sex ratio, maturity, age, and trophic interactions for several important fish species that inhabit the bay seasonally.

Nonindigenous aquatic species and potential spread after Hurricane Nate

This map was created to help assess impacts on nonindigenous aquatic species distributions due to flooding associated with Hurricane Nate. Storm surge and flood events can assist expansion and distribution of nonindigenous aquatic species through the connection of adjacent watersheds, backflow of water upstream of impoundments, increased downstream flow, and creation of freshwater bridges along coastal regions. This map will help natural resource managers determine potential new locations for individual species, or to develop a watch list of potential new species within a watershed.
