These profiles of suspended-sediment concentration were collected and compiled to characterize suspended sediment in the Colorado River during both average flow conditions and during a controlled flood that occurred in March 2008. The objectives of the study were to measure changes in suspended sediment that occurred during changes in discharge associated with the controlled flood. These data were collected between March 4 and March 10, 2008 in the center of the channel 44.64 river miles downstream from Lees Ferry, Arizona on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park. The sampling location was within a 1-mile study reach beginning 0.14 miles upstream from the sampling location. These data were collected...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides vertical water-quality profiles collected at Great Salt Lake, Utah monitoring sites during 1995–2000 and 2011–2022. Data were collected using an In-Situ Multi-Parameter TROLL 9500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 600, or YSI EXO2 Multiparameter Sonde. Recorded parameters include water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, and reduction potential. Historic data, 1995–2000, includes hydrometer and refractometer readings.

Transects of near-surface continuous water-quality data and vertical profiles of the same parameters were collected over a 24-hour period from September 7 to September 8, 2023 in the Arthur Kill. The Arthur Kill is a tidal strait located between Staten Island, New York, and Union and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey, and connects Newark Bay to the north and Raritan Bay to the south. It is a major shipping channel for the Port of New York and New Jersey surrounded by industrial and highly developed land. Transects were collected using a Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) EXO2 series water-quality sonde with a 5-second data collection interval while the boat was in motion. Vertical profiles of water-quality parameters...
Note: This data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. Field data for vertical water quality profiles using Yellow Spring Instruments (YSI) EXO2 sondes during daylight hours in Clear Lake, California. This data release includes all measured environmental parameters included in the analysis. First release: April 13, 2019 Revised: October 29, 2019 (ver. 2.0) Revised - January 24, 2022 (version 3.0)

This data release contains phytoplankton data and vertical profile measurements of water quality and light in oligotrophic (low nutrient) lakes within the Adirondack Park, New York State. Data were collected between June and October 2021 at five lakes. Four lake locations (Nearshore, Open Water, Layer, Bloom) were sampled representing one of four sample types (Bottom Sediment, Surface Water, Bloom Material, Layer). Water-quality field parameters (water temperature, dissolved-oxygen concentration and percent saturation, pH, specific conductance, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and fluorescent dissolved organic material) were measured at each sampling location from the surface to the...

A vertical profile of downwelling spectral irradiance at different depths within the water column was measured on the Deschutes River near Bend, OR, July 28, 2016, to support research on remote sensing of river discharge. Downwelling spectral irradiance data were collected using an Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec3 spectroradiometer operated in irradiance mode and deployed from a customized measurement crane. The measurements were made near a boat launch downstream of Benham Falls. In addition, the depth at which each downwelling spectral irradiance measurement was made was obtained using an Onset Hobo pressure transducer mounted next to the spectroradiometer foreoptic on the crane. This data release provides...

A vertical profile of downwelling spectral irradiance at different depths within the water column was measured on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, WY, August 23, 2015, to support research on remote sensing of rivers. Downwelling spectral irradiance data were collected using an Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec3 spectroradiometer operated in irradiance mode and deployed from a customized measurement crane. The measurements were made in a reach downstream of Jackson Lake referred to as Swallow bend. In addition, the depth at which each downwelling spectral irradiance measurement was made was obtained using an Onset Hobo pressure transducer mounted next to the spectroradiometer foreoptic on the crane....
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides vertical profiles of water-quality data collected from two sites in Milford Lake, Kansas, August 24-25, 2017. Data are rounded to USGS significant figures. A multiparameter water-quality sonde was used to measure water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and dissolved organic matter fluorescence. Photosynthetically active radiation was measured using a spherical underwater quantum sensor during each sample collection with daylight present. Vertical profiles were collected approximately 75 minutes apart and alternated between the two sites. This data release was produced in...

Field data for vertical profiles of light and water quality parameters were collected biweekly between May and November in 2019 and June and October in 2020 in association with continuous monitoring platforms in Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes, Finger Lakes Region, New York. Water quality profiles were collected using Yellow Spring Instruments (YSI) EXO2 sondes and light profiles were collected using a LI-COR Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) sensor in 2019 and Onset HOBO Pendant Temperature and Light data loggers in 2020. This data release includes all measured environmental parameters included in the analysis. This data release was produced in compliance with the open data requirements as a way...

The acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) data were collected and compiled to characterize the velocity patterns in channel of the Colorado River and in an adjacent zone of laterally recirculating flow (eddy). Topographic/bathymetric digital elevation models (DEMs) were collected and compiled to characterize erosion and deposition in the Colorado River and in an adjacent zone of laterally recirculating flow (eddy). Profiles of suspended-sediment concentration were also collected and compiled to characterize suspended sediment in the Colorado River. These datasets were collected during both average flow conditions and during a controlled flood that occurred in March 2008. Objectives of the study were to measure...

Particle size distributions, and scattering and absorption coefficients were measured over the Green River basin of Wyoming during the Southwest Wyoming Visibility Study (SWYVIS) in February and March 1996. Eleven flights were carried out, using the Wyoming King Air research aircraft. In the least polluted regions of the planetary boundary layer, particle number densities detected in the diameter range 0.13?3.0 ?m were <100 cm?3. Aloft, in the stable air of the free troposphere, they were generally even lower, often falling to a few tens of particles per cm3. Analyses of bulk aerosol filter samples showed that organic carbonaceous material was the dominant chemical component, with sulfate and refractory species...
