This dataset describes irrigation water use in Kansas in 2015. Volumes of water used, irrigated area, and average irrigation application depths are provided for three sets of subareas: (1) Irrigation water use analysis regions that include Groundwater Management Districts (GMDs) with the areas outside of GMDs divided into eastern, central, and western Kansas; (2) Regional Planning Areas (RPAs), which are 14 areas determined by the Kansas Water Office based on hydrologic and administrative boundaries, each with a set of goals outlined in the Kansas Water Vision (https://kwo.ks.gov/water-plan/water-vision); and (3) the 105 Kansas counties. Volumes of water used, irrigated area, and average application depths are also...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides derivative statistics of water used by Kansas public-supply systems in 2015. Gallons per capita per day is calculated using self-reported information in the “Part B: Monthly Water Use Summary” and “Part C: Population, Service Connections, and Water Rates” sections of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Division of Water Resources' (DWR) annual municipal water use report (see appendixes at http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/ds964 for an example of a municipal water use report form.) Percent unaccounted for water is calculated using self-reported information in “Part B: Monthly Water Use Summary” of the DWR’s municipal water-use report. The published statistics from...

The SARP Flow Alteration Assessment provides a regional characterization of the distribution and risk of flow regime impairment of streams and rivers by anthropogenic sources at the NHD+ segment scale. This map illustrates the maximum monthly risk of flow alteration (RFA) from surface water use by water use sector for Texas and Oklahoma.  Water use is based on state permits for surface water withdrawals and returns.  The risk is based on the volume of water used monthly in the drainage area relative to the monthly volume of flow.  Risk of Flow Alteration categories:  ZERO     - 0% mean monthly flow depletion,  LOW      - > 0-10%,  MEDIUM - > 10-20%,  HIGH      - >20-100%, and...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides derivative statistics of water used by Kansas irrigators in the Kansas irrigation water-use analysis regions. The published application rate statistics from the previous 4 years (2010–13) are shown with the 2014 statistics and are used to calculate a 5-year average. The 2014 annual total precipitation and the current 30-year climatic normal (based on 1981–2010) are also shown by region. The amount of water used, irrigated acres, and application rates are further grouped by crop type. The amount of water used and irrigated acres are further grouped by irrigation method. Total reported irrigation water use in 2014 was 3.3 million acre-feet of water applied to...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release represents geospatial and tabular data on irrigation water use in Kansas. The data release was produced in compliance with open data requirements. The dataset consists of 3 separate items with similar attributes aggregated to different geographic extents: 1. Kansas counties; 2. Kansas regional planning areas used in the Kansas Water Plan; and 3. Kansas irrigation water-use analysis regions. Reported 2014 water withdrawn for irrigation, acres irrigated, and application rates along with the published application rate statistics from the previous 4 years (2010–13) are shown with the 2014 statistics and are used to calculate a 5-year average. The 2014 annual total...

This dataset contains a representation of developed lands projected to occur in the Alternative 2070 scenario from the Florida 2070 project. Florida 2070 and its companion project Water 2070 were a joint effort of 1000 Friends of Florida, the University of Florida's GeoPlan Center and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The work was completed in December 2016. Florida 2070 produced three land use/population distribution scenarios Baseline 2010, Trend 2070 and Alternative 2070. The two 2070 scenarios are based on a population projection derived from data produced by the Florida Bureau of Economic and Business Research. This projection suggests approximately 15 million more people will live...
Elcock, Deborah, 2010. Future U.S. Water Consumption: The Role of Energy Production. Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA) 46(3):447-460. DOI: 10.1111/j.1752-1688.2009.00413.x Abstract: This study investigates how meeting domestic energy production targets for both fossil and renewable fuels may affect future water demand. It combines projections of energy production developed by the U.S. Department of Energy with estimates of water consumption on a per-unit basis (water-consumption coefficients) for coal, oil, gas, and biofuels production, to estimate and compare the domestic freshwater consumed. Although total domestic freshwater consumption is expected to increase by nearly 7% between 2005...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides derivative county-level statistics of water used by Kansas irrigators in 2014. The published county-level application rate statistics from the previous 4 years (2010–13) are shown with the 2014 statistics and are used to calculate a 5-year average. The 2014 annual total precipitation and the current 30-year climatic normal (based on 1981–2010) are also shown by county. Other data published in this data release include the amount of water used, irrigated acres, and application rates by crop type and the amount of water used and number of irrigated acres for each irrigation method. Total reported irrigation water use in 2014 was 3.3 million acre-feet of water...

The Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership, a partner in the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative, is advancing instream flow science by developing basic information necessary to support flow standards and water management recommendations for waterways throughout the region. Helping resource managers prepare for future population growth and climate change-associated flow alterations at regional and local scales will enable state and federal agencies to focus regulatory and management efforts on habitats most vulnerable to altered flow. They will be able to develop more effective management strategies to minimize impacts to fish and wildlife and better inform policy-makers on conservation needs.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides derivative 2014 statistics of water used by Kansas irrigators in the 14 regional planning areas used in the Kansas Water Plan. The published application rate from 2013 is shown with the 2014 statistics. A 5-year average will be calculated with 2017 data. The 2014 annual total precipitation and the current 30-year climatic normal (based on 1981–2010) are also shown by regional planning area.

This metadata record documents a comma separated ascii dataset of water withdrawal and consumption (not returned) amounts from thermoelectric power plants in the conterminous United States for 2010. These data are U.S. Geological Survey best estimates of annual water withdrawal and consumption values in million gallons per day (Mgal/d) as reported in Diehl and others, 2014. These values were estimated for all power plants that are 1 megawatt or greater in nameplate capacity and that generated electricity in 2010. The estimates were rounded, so power plants whose water use was estimated to be less than 0.005 Mgal/d were rounded to zero. Please see the Supplemental Information element of this metadata record for references...
