Carbon dioxide (CO2) is under consideration as a chemical fish deterrent at pinch points in rivers (e.g., inside locks) to reduce unwanted fish passage. This study evaluated the behavioral responses of invasive round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) to dissolved CO2 in laboratory tanks. The goal of this project was to quantify CO2 concentrations that modify round goby behavior. More specifically, avoidance behavior (voluntary response) and loss of equilibrium (involuntary response) were quantified across 5, 15, and 25°C water temperatures. These data can be used to inform future field testing of CO2 as an invasive fish deterrent. Spreadsheets include data that were used to evaluate the efficacy of carbon dioxide (CO2)...

This data provides an estimated raster surface of dissolved oxygen values across a region covered by an August 23, 2016 AUV survey. The raster was generated by using a natural neighbors interplator within a GIS on the empirical data set. This interpolator was chosen due to the non-normal distribution observed among the data, and its ability to produce smoother approximations than alternative interpolation methods. There are three files available for download in the 'Attached Files' section below. There is a zip file which contains the interpolated dissolved oxygen surface, an xml file which contains metadata, and a layer file which can be used to import the layer's symbology.

This data is part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The data consists of date, time, and temperature measurements from intertidal rocky sampling sites. The dataset is 5 comma separated files exported from a download from the HOBO temperature logger. Sites are in Alaska and include locations in Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park and northern and western Prince William Sound. There are five sites in each of those areas. The time interval includes 2014-2016. Temperature loggers were set to record hourly. Each file is comprised of data from a single site from a given year. Loggers were re-used so the logger serial number is included...
Interest in the field of environmental DNA (eDNA) is growing rapidly and eDNA surveys are becoming an important consideration for aquatic resource managers dealing with invasive species. However, in order for eDNA monitoring to mature as a research and management tool, there are several critical knowledge gaps that must be filled. One such gap is the fate of eDNA materials in the aquatic environment. Understanding the environmental factors that influence the decay of eDNA and how these factors impact detection probabilities over time and space could have significant implications for eDNA survey design and data interpretation. Here we experimentally explore eDNA decay in waste materials and reproductive cells obtained...

The RVCAT database contains data that have been collected on various vessel operations on the Great Lakes and select connecting waterways. This section of Reference Tables specifically handles repetitive or standardized information that is called upon in the main tables of the RVCAT database. Reference tables are used in database design in order to standardize often used values and to make the data file efficient. All of the terms defined in the reference tables have been determined by the United States Geological Survey, Great Lakes Science Center and it’s partners.
