This dataset includes hourly stream temperature data for 139 temperature logger sites throughout the Lahontan Basin Region of Northern Nevada and Eastern California. Data loggers were part a study beginning in 2017, with data available through 2019 for most locations. The spatial data layer contains site locations, geographic information, data summaries, mean August stream temperatures, and modeled NorWeST stream temperatures. The Wet-Dry delineation file contains daily flow status estimates derived from stream temperature data for each site. The Site Visit file contains the date and time of the site visit along with associated information on site flow conditions, water depths, logger conditions, and stream logger...

Heat can be used a tracer for monitoring seepage rates within stream channels. To estimate seepage using temperature, the diel amplitude and attenuation of temperature at several depths below the streambed must be monitored, as well as the frequency and duration of streamflow in a channel (Narranjo and Smith, 2016). Special subsurface temperature rods (TRODS) were developed to address these most of these needs (Narranjo and Turcotte, 2015). A TROD consists of discrete temperature iButton sensors within a .75 inch (in) diameter 1 meter (m) long sealed, water-proof PVC pipe to prevent water damage to the sensors. A TROD is installed into stream channel sediments and measures surface water and sediment temperatures...

This data set provides locations and values of water quality parameters from a survey conducted on August 24, 2016 using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Nicoll Bay, NY. During the August 24 survey, 17,808 observations of water quality parameters were made. Parameters collected include dissolved oxygen, pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and salinity. Data was collected in approximately east-west transects by the AUV, with the northern-most transects made first. Data was collected between the hours of 1 am and 5 am to obtain minimum DO values in the daily cycle. There are three files available for download in the 'Attached Files' section below. There is a zip file which contains the observation...

This data release contains three data types that could potentially be used to infer spatiotemporal variability in groundwater discharge processes, along with other research and monitoring purposes: 1) Temporally continuous stream channel water temperature and adjacent streambank air temperature time series data (generally starting November 2020) as well as limited temperature data from May to October 2022 from select seeps and springs; 2) Discrete stable isotope data collected from stream water (May 2021, October/November 2021, May 2022, October/November 2022); and 3) Discrete dissolved radon gas data from stream water (collected May 2021 and May 2022). Data were collected at 51 temporary stations installed along...

In summer in Massachusetts, USA, preferential groundwater discharge zones are often colder than adjacent streambed areas that do not have substantial discharge. Therefore, discharge zones can efficiently be identified and mapped over space using heat as a tracer. This data release contains fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) data collected along the streambed interface of the main channel and tributaries of the upper Quashnet River, within approximately 1 km of Johns Pond, from June 14 to June 20, 2020. For these deployments a Salixa XT-DTS control unit (Salixa Ltd, Hertfordshire, UK) was used, and measurements were made over several day increments at 0.508 m linear resolution. Specific locations...
This data release combines seven airborne thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing data sets of stream temperature collected along the mainstem of the Middle Fork John Day River (MFJD) in Oregon from 1994 to 2003. Years 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2002 have single datasets. Year 2003 has two data sets. Most of the TIR data covered the upstream half of the MFJD mainstem between river km 50 and 110, while the 2002 profile covers the lower half starting at the confluence of the MFJD with the North Fork John Day River through river kilometer 64. All TIR data sets were collected by helicopter in an upstream direction in August with the intent of capturing data at or near the maximum summer daily stream temperature. Ground-truthing...

The Upper Delaware River is a unique example of an aquatic system where summer river temperature is actively managed for ecological purposes. River temperature at the mainstem Delaware River at Lordville, NY gage (USGS 01427207) is targeted to remain below 25°C, with warm events potentially mitigated via directed upstream reservoir releases, a process guided by predictive tools. These directed releases currently occur at the Cannonsville Dam on the West Branch, though the temperature criteria at the Lordville gage is also influenced by releases from the Pepacton Dam on the east branch. To increase the spatial resolution of summer river temperature data available for understanding river temperature processes and...

This U.S. Geological Survey data release consists of a tabular dataset containing stream temperature data. Data were collected every 12-hours from 15 sites in Soldier Meadows, Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area, Nevada. The sites were established by the Bureau of Land Management - Winnemucca District Office in 2017. The data release includes tabular data of site names, date and time of temperature measurement, and stream temperature in degrees Celsius. The site locations are included below as a shapefile, exported from the National Water Information System (NWIS) Mapper. A site list can be accessed here: National Water Information System site list

This data release component contains shapefiles of river basin polygons and monitoring site locations coincident with the outlets of those basins. A table of basin attributes is also supplied. Attributes, observations, and weather forcing data for these basins were used to train and test the stream temperature prediction models of Rahmani et al. (2021b).<\p>
