This data release provides a comprehensive dataset of sampling-site characteristics and baseline groundwater-quality data collected from a network of multilevel sampling wells installed in a densely developed coastal neighborhood undergoing a conversion from onsite septic systems to municipal sewering. Groundwater samples were collected during multiple events from a total of 227 well screens at 15 locations using a peristaltic pump between June 2016 and December 2020. Samples were collected and preserved following methods documented in the U.S. Geological Survey National Field Manual (variously dated) and Savoie and others (2012). This dataset provides well construction information, groundwater levels, water-quality...

This dataset describes the storm event mean concentrations and loads of total and dissolved forms of phosphorus and nitrogen from paired samples collected in the control and test catchment during the calibration and treatment phase of a leaf removal study in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Samples were collected in spring 2013 through fall 2015 and are parsed by season where spring represents April – May, summer represents June – September and fall represents October – November. Measured weather parameters for each sampled storm event are also described. These data are interpreted in a journal article published in Science of the Total Environment.

A secchi disk is used to estimate the water transparency depth of surface-water bodies. Secchi disk depth was measured monthly at Caño Boquerón, Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques; Puerto Rico for the period from July 2015 to July 2016. This data release is part of a limnological analysis at Caño Boquerón and Puerto Mosquito to assess the principal factors affecting the hydrology and water-quality conditions. In addition, the study provides baseline information to regulatory agencies responsible for the management and conservation of coastal waters in Puerto Rico. The investigation focused on Caño Boquerón, and Puerto Mosquito surface-water bodies, representing disturbed and undisturbed conditions,...

This dataset contains measurements of dissolved oxygen concentrations collected at Caño Boquerón in Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico. The method consists of in-situ incubation of two light-and-dark bottles for approximately four hours. Dissolved oxygen concentrations were determined using the Winkler method. A total of twelve monthly in-situ incubations were conducted from July 2015 to July 2016. For each bottle incubated, two or three titrations were conducted and an average of the DO calculations is presented.

The Ankeny, Iowa wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) was decommissioned in November 2013 providing a unique opportunity to characterize the impacts of WWTF discharge on water quality at the surface-water/groundwater interface in a shallow, unconfined alluvial aquifer. The Ankeny WWTF discharged treated effluent for nearly forty years into Fourmile Creek, located in Ankeny, Iowa. Dataset includes site information (Table 1), analytical methods (Table 2), piezometer water level elevations (Table 3), trace and major element concentrations collected from 2011 to 2013 before the WWTF shutdown (Table 4), and trace and major element concentration collected from 2013 to 2014 after the WWTF shutdown (Table 5).

The dataset contains Escherichia coli (E. coli) concentrations and loads that were measured and calculated from samples collected from the Little Blue River and its tributaries in Independence, MO. The data was collected during the 2010-2016 recreation seasons. The U.S. Geological Survey, in coordination with the City of Independence, collected the data for use in regression models to evaluation E. coli loads in the Little Blue River and its tributaries within the boundaries of the City of Independence. Further information on the methods and the results of the data collection and regression models can be found in the conference proceedings paper cited below. Citation: Flickinger, A.; Christensen, E. This dataset contains the selected physical properties and chemical constituents that were measured at Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques on June 22, 2017. A cross-sectional profile was conducted by measuring a total of ten selected site throughout the lagoon during the morning. Field water-quality measurements included the parameters of specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen.

The dataset contains the selected physical properties and chemical constituents that were measured at Caño Boquerón, Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico during a diurnal cycle. Two diel studies were conducted per lagoon to determine the community primary productivity. Photosynthesis creates oxygen which enhances microbiological activity and results in the production of organic matter. Primary productivity is important for supporting the food web in aquatic ecosystems. The field data collection included the measurement of temperature, dissolved oxygen, and percent of oxygen saturation. Measurements were obtained at about 1 hour intervals. Diel studies were conducted on October 29, 2015 and...

Note: This data release has been revised. The updated version is available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9DR22GD. As part of the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Regional Groundwater Monitoring Program of Water Quality in Areas of Oil and Gas Production, during September 2016–February 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey collected and analyzed groundwater and associated quality-control (QC) samples from 14 water-production wells located within a three mile buffer zone of and in the Fruitvale Oil field, Kern County, California. Samples were analyzed for water-quality indicators, major and minor ions, nutrients, trace elements, volatile organic compounds, naturally occurring radioactive material, geochemical...

The dataset contains daily values of hydrologic and physical parameters. These daily values were calculated from continuous (15-minute) data collected from continuous water quality monitors (CWQMs) installed at five gaged sites within the Little Blue River watershed in Independence, Missouri. The data were used as input to regression models to predict Escherichia coli (E. coli) loads. Any data estimation was performed according to procedures described in the WEFTEC 2017 conference proceedings paper "Evaluation of Modeled Bacteria Loads Along an Impaired Stream Reach Receiving Discharge from a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System in Independence, Mo." Periods of missing daily values were due to equipment malfunction,...
