This dataset estimates the probability of road-crossing mortality to wildlife for roads throughout the Northeastern United States circa 2010. It is based on a model that relates traffic rate to wildlife mortality developed by Gibbs and Shriver (2002) for turtles and therefore the estimates are expected to be most accurate for relatively small, slow-moving wildlife species. Units are probability, 0-1 (e.g., a value of 0.25 is equivalent to an estimated 25% chance of mortality to wildlife that attempt to cross the road at that location.)Detailed documentation for the methods to derive the dataset are available from: DSL_traffic_documentation_07-2013.pdf . (i) Severe perkinsea data was based on the observation of characteristic gross and microscopic lesions and the morphological identification of Perkinsea organisms within the lesions. Necropsies and gross evaluation of carcasses were carried out under a dissecting microscope. Specimen were collected and submitted to the NWHC as part of mortality investigations and collection of specimen from apparently healthy populations as part of ongoing amphibian health monitoring. Variation in avian and bat mortality as a function of turbine size was investigated in the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Resource Area near Palm Springs, CA. Five sites were monitored for carcasses by dog-handler teams every 3 days from May 2018 to April 2019. The data consist of six tables used for analyses on mortality rates including: specifications on selected wind turbines (including energy capacity), carcasses found during surveys, results from search efficiency and carcass placement trials of species of different size classes.
