The text file "Wind speed.txt" contains hourly data and associated data-source flag from January 1, 1948, to September 30, 2016. The primary source of the data is the Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois (ANL). The data-source flag consist of a three-digit sequence in the form "xyz" that describe the origin and transformations of the data values. They indicate if the data are original or missing, the method that was used to fill the missing periods, and any other transformations of the data. Missing and apparently erroneous data values were replaced with adjusted values from nearby stations used as “backup”. This data release is the update of the U.S. Geological Survey - ScienceBase data release by Bera and Over (2017), with the processed data through September 30, 2017. The primary data for each year is downloaded from the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) (Argonne National Laboratory, 2017) and is processed following the guidelines documented in Over and others (2010). The primary data for water year 2018 (a water year is the 12-month period, October 1 through September 30, designated by the calendar year in which it ends) were downloaded from the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) (Argonne National Laboratory, 2019) and processed following the guidelines documented in Over and others (2010). In the summer of 2014 at Pawtuckaway Beach at Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham New Hampshire, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) established a seasonal meteorological station (430508071091801) on the beach and a seasonal water-quality station (01073389) in Pawtuckaway Lake proximal to the swimming area. Data recorded at 15-minute intervals by the meteorological station were wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. These data were compiled from six automated weather stations that together provide several points in the meteorological record across a latitudinal and elevational gradient in southeastern Utah. Recorded data from these weather stations are associated with several different studies. Meteorological data are important for quantifying short term weather events as well as longer term climate trends. Meteorological data, including wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, relative humidity, and air pressure, were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center at a site located in Grizzly Bay, California. A Vaisala WXT530 meteorological station was mounted atop of a dolphin-type mooring structure, from January to June 2020. The data were truncated based on deployment and recovery times of hydrodynamic time-series data, spurious data points from the wind sensor were removed, and the file was written to netCDF. In order to study the likely effects of global warming on future ecosystems, a method for applying a heating treatment to open-field plant canopies (i.e. a temperature free-air controlled enhancement (T-FACE) system) is needed which will warm vegetation as expected by the future climate. One method which shows promise is infrared heating, but a theory of operation is needed for predicting the performance of infrared heaters. This dataset provides an estimate of annual wind resources for the Northeast. It was developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy. The wind power classes are described in the attached table. Areas designated class 3 or greater are suitable for most utility-scale wind turbine applications, whereas class 2 areas are marginal for utility-scale applications but may be suitable for rural applications. Class 1 areas are generally not suitable, although a few locations (e.g. exposed hilltops not shown on the maps) with adequate wind resource for wind turbine applications may exist in some class 1 areas. The Climate Impacts Group has analyzed the climate response for the Pacific Northwest simulated by several climate models. These simulations were prepared by climate modeling centers worldwide for the Fourth IPCC Assessement. For consistency with prior work, we include the current versions of models used previously: Hadcm3, Echam5, CCSM3, and PCM1 (CCSM3 is the successor to both the NCAR CSM and DOE PCM). To these we added five additional models to better represent the range of models participating in AR4. These are: CNRM_CM3, CSIRO_MK3 Miroc_3.2, IPSL_CM4, CGCM_3.1, and GISS_ER. The Regional Climate Downloader (RCD) is a web application that can be used to visualize and download climate data. The RCD uses the Web Mapping Service (WMS) that is built into the Thredds Data Server , (see Disclaimer and Terms of Use ) that allows users to map and download monthly average data for over 60 surface variables generated by the Dynamical Downscaling project. The time coverage of these simulations ranges from 1968 to 2100, depending on the region of simulation and the driving GCM. Decadal, monthly and daily data are available for the Dynamical Downscaling project. Other datasets such as CIG are also available from within RCD. Data are available in NetCDF format.
