These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. The U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Use Information Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the nation's water-use data. The USGS works in cooperation with local, State, and Federal environmental agencies to collect water-use information. USGS compiles these data to produce water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into...

This data set consists of water-table contours for Nevada. These data were created as part of an effort to provide statewide information on water table and depth to ground water for Nevada. The data set was constructed from water-table contours published in 38 reports between 1961 and 2004. Data used to make the contours were collected from 1947 to 2004. The reports used were a subset of 104 reports identified during a literature...

This data set represents the amount of fresh surface water withdrawal for irrigation, in megaliters per day, in the conterminous United States. The data set was used as an input data layer for a national model to predict nitrate concentration in shallow ground water. Nolan and Hitt (2006) developed two national models to predict contamination of ground water by nonpoint sources of nitrate. The nonlinear approach to national-scale...

This data set represents "water input," the ratio of the total area of irrigated land to precipitation, in square kilometers per centimeter, in the conterminous United States. The data set was used as an input data layer for a national model to predict nitrate concentration in shallow ground water. Nolan and Hitt (2006) developed two national models to predict contamination of ground water by nonpoint sources of nitrate. The nonlinear...

MDWU98 is a point coverage that represents the locations of wells for the State of Maryland that are permitted to withdraw 10,000 gallons or more per day by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Each site has the permit number, permit amount, reported withdrawal, aquifer code, and type of use. Information contained in the dataset comes from the U.S.Geological Survey site-specific water-use database (SWUDS).

The Sprague River drains 4090 square kilometers in south-central Oregon before flowing into the Williamson River and upper Klamath Lake. In cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the USGS and University of Oregon conducted a study to evaluate channel and floodplain processes for the 131 km of the Sprague River and its major tributaries, including the lower 20 km of the South Fork Sprague River, the lower 16 km of the...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality has developed a geographic database of selected ground-water-level altitude contours and surfaces for Utah. The contour data are derived from studies published by the USGS and the State of Utah. The published contours were converted to digital format and attributes documenting information such as the water-level altitude, the year...

The Mojave River and Morongo ground-water basins are in the southwestern part of the Mojave Desert in southern California. Ground water from these basins supplies a major part of the water requirements for the region. The continuous population growth in this area has resulted in ever-increasing demands on local ground-water resources. The collection and interpretation of ground-water data helps local water districts, military bases,...

This data set consists of digital water-table contours for the Mojave River Basin. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Mojave Water Agency, constructed a water-table map of the Mojave River ground-water basin for ground-water levels measured in November 1992. Water-level data were collected from approximately 300 wells to construct the contours. The water-table contours were digitized from the paper map which was...

In 2016, the total amount of public-supply water withdrawn in Puerto Rico was estimated at 551 million gallons per day (Mgal/d) from fresh water sources. Surface water accounted for 492 Mgal/d (89 percent) and groundwater accounted for 59 Mgal/d (11 percent). Population served by public-supply water systems accounted for 3.4 million people, almost 100 percent of the total population. Total domestic water use was estimated at 396 Mgal/d and it is represented as the summation of deliveries from public-supply water systems to domestic users and self-supplied domestic withdrawals. The average per capita domestic water use, which represents the daily water use for the population that is supplied by public-supply water...
