Water-quality data were collected by the Providence Water Supply Board (PWSB) from tributaries in the Scituate Reservoir drainage area, October 2016 through September 2017 (water year 2017). Water-quality samples were collected by the PWSB either monthly or quarterly at fixed stations on 36 tributaries in the Scituate Reservoir drainage area. These data were used to calculate instantaneous loads and yields of constituents in a report by the U.S. Geological Survey. Water-quality samples were collected following a strict sampling schedule so that water-quality samples would be representative of various weather conditions. Samples were analyzed at the PWSB water-quality laboratory at the P.J. Holton Water Purification...

An inventory of facilities that bottle water or other beverages containing water (including soft drinks, beer, wine, or spirits) or that manufacture ice was compiled by combining available datasets from multiple sources. This water bottling inventory dataset includes facilities within all 50 states of the United States, one federal district (Washington, District of Columbia), and three territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands). The inventory focuses on presently active facilities in 2023. Most closed water bottling facilities are not included; however, facilities identified as being a former production site (meaning the facility is still active but the business function has changed) or as closed during...
The tabular data sets and associated maps in this data release represent water-quality data that were collected between April and November of 2017 and between July and November of 2019 to describe baseline conditions prior to or sometimes following treatments using herbicides or other methods to reduce the biomass of non-native water primrose (Ludwigia) within off-channel water bodies of the Willamette River near Albany and Keizer, Oregon. The water-quality parameters measured in this study included water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total chlorophyll, phycocyanin (blue-green algae pigment), and fluorescing dissolved organic matter in surface water.

The High Plains aquifer extends from about 32 degrees to almost 44 degrees north latitude and from about 96 degrees 30 minutes to 106 degrees west longitude. The aquifer underlies about 175,000 square miles in parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming. This digital data set is comprised of water-level measurements from 7,698 wells measured in both 2015 and 2017, which were used to map water-level changes, 2015 to 2017. The map was reviewed for consistency with the relevant data at a scale of 1:1,000,000.
This data release contains estimates of annual nitrogen and phosphorus loads, as well as loads of other constituents, from sites in the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Network. The loads were estimated using Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season with Kalman filtering (WRTDS-K) and existing discrete water-quality data and discharge data collected by Illinois EPA, the U.S. Geological Survey, and Illinois State Water Survey from water year 1976 to 2021 (Hirsch and others, 2015; Lee and others, 2019). All water-quality and discharge data used in this work are available from the Water Quality Portal and the National Water Information System database...

This data set includes dissolved oxygen (DO) and specific conductivity (SpC) data collected in both the surface water and shallow streambed at the Quashnet River, Mashpee, USA from 2014-16. This data was collected to better understand groundwater discharge to the river and associated brook trout habitat. DO was typically near saturation in surface water and some groundwater, but is reduced in streambed zones that may be influenced by buried peat lenses. SpC was used as an indicator of groundwater flowpath dynamics, and lower values were generally associated with higher DO.

These data were collected to understand the occurrence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water samples at public water systems identified to have perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) or perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) above laboratory reporting levels in previously collected raw-water samples (Mcadoo and others, 2022), and provide a review of the analytical results. These data are stored in the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) but are not available to the public from that platform because West Virginia State Law §22-26-4, and USGS policy concerning the release of sensitive water related information, prohibits the release of public water system infrastructure location information....

We deployed a sampler to characterize water quality from a household well tapping a shallow fractured dolomite aquifer in northeast Wisconsin. The sampler was deployed from January to May 2017, and monitored temperature, nitrate, chloride, specific conductance, and fluorescent dissolved organic matter on a minute time step; water was directed to sequential microbial filters during three recharge periods that ranged from 5 to 20 days. Results from the automated sampler demonstrate the dynamic nature of the household water quality, especially with regard to microbial targets, which were shown to vary 1 to 2 orders of magnitude during a single sampling event. We believe assessments of pathogen occurrence and concentration,...

The Bushy Park Reservoir is a relatively shallow impoundment in a semi-tropical climate and is the principal water supply for the 400,000 people of the City of Charleston and the surrounding areas including the industries in the Bushy Park Industrial Complex. Although there is an adequate supply of freshwater in the reservoir, there are taste-and-odor water-quality concerns. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) worked in cooperation with the Charleston Water System to study the hydrology and water-quality of the Bushy Park Reservoir to identify factors affecting water-quality conditions. This data release is for water-quality profiles collected with a hand-held calibrated field meter from a manned boat concurrent with...

The Cape Fear and Pee Dee River Basins in North Carolina and South Carolina were chosen as a focus area study (FAS) for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Census (NWC) in 2016. The objective of the NWC is to place technical information and tools in the hands of stake holders so that they can make decisions on water availability. The USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center, comprised of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, conducted a 3-year study of water use and availability to provide information related to the competing societal and ecological water needs in the Southeastern Atlantic Coastal Basins of the Carolinas. One task to meet this objective was compiling water withdrawal and return...
