A one-year seismic hazard forecast for the Central and Eastern United States, based on induced and natural earthquakes, has been produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. The model assumes that earthquake rates calculated from several different time windows will remain relatively stationary and can be used to forecast earthquake hazard and damage intensity for the year 2016. This assessment is the first step in developing an operational earthquake forecast for the CEUS, and the analysis could be revised with updated seismicity and model parameters. Consensus input models consider alternative earthquake catalog durations, smoothing parameters, maximum magnitudes, and ground motion estimates, and represent uncertainties...

This raster dataset contains biophysical settings (band 1) and wildfire frequencies (band 2) within the Colorado Desert ecological section of California. Biophysical settings were developed by the LANDFIRE program and fires occurences were mapped by the Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) program.

This part of DS 781 presents data for bathymetry for several seafloor maps of the Offshore of Gaviota Map Area, California. The vector data file is included in "Bathymetry_OffshoreGaviota.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7TH8JWJ. Shaded-relief bathymetry of the Offshore of Gaviota map area in southern California was generated from acoustic-bathymetry data collected largely by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and by Fugro Pelagos Inc. Acoustic mapping was completed between 2007 and 2008 using a combination of 400-kHz Reson 7125, 240-kHz Reson 8101, and 100-kHz Reson 8111 multibeam echosounders, as well as a 234-kHz SEA SWATHplus bathymetric sidescan-sonar system. In addition, bathymetric-lidar...

Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge (YKF NWR) and Koyukuk NWR (KUK NWR), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), initiated a project with the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center to acquire map products needed for moose habitat assessment. The objective of this work was to create a suite of products which included: Estimated Vegetation Heights, Willow-Not Willow Estimates, and Vegetation Type Maps. These products are based on spectral characteristics found in bands 2 through 7 of Landsat 8 OLI scenes processed to surface reflectances, acquired in summer of 2013, and late winter of 2014. Training data was collected by fixed wing aircraft and helicopter by USFWS refuge staff,...

This dataset shows land cover in the Upper Oconee watershed. The data layer primarily uses the 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) but was manually edited to include 2,219 additional reservoirs. The reservoirs were identified and digitized using 2010 National Aerial Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery.

Fragmentation extent of six ecosystem types after European Settlement was analyzed using LANDFIRE data. The ecosystem types includes: Grassland, Shrubland, Conifer, Riparian, Hardwood and Sparse ecosystems. The land use change and fragmentation extents have been analyzed by delineating nine Greater Wildland Ecosystems (GWEs) across NCCSC.

This part of DS 781 presents data for the depth-to-transition map of the Pigeon Point to Monterey, California, map region. The raster data file is included in "DepthToTransition_PigeonPointToMonterey.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7N29V0Z. As part of the USGS's California State Waters Mapping Project, a 50-m grid of sediment thickness for the seafloor within the limit of California’s State Waters between Pigeon Point and southern Monterey Bay was generated from seismic-reflection data collected in 2009 and 2010 (USGS activities (S-15-10-NC, S-N1-09-MB, and S-06-11-MB) supplemented with outcrop and geologic structure from DS 781. The resulting grid covers was subtracted from regional bathymetry...

Prior research has shown that sediment budgets, and therefore stability, of microtidal marsh complexes scale with areal unvegetated to vegetated marsh ratios (UVVR) suggesting these metrics are broadly applicable indicators of microtidal marsh vulnerability. This effort has developed the UVVR metric using Landsat 8 satellite imagery for the coastal areas of the contiguous United States (CONUS). These datasets provide annual averages of 1) developed, 2) vegetated, 3) unvegetated fractional covers and 4) an unvegetated to vegetated ratio (UVVR) at 30-meter resolution over the coastal areas of the contiguous United States for the years 2014-2018. Additionally, multi-year average values of vegetated fractional cover...
