Groundwater quality data for 472 domestic well-water samples were retrieved from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database and combined with descriptive information on the sampled well locations. The NWIS data for a sample, collected on the selected date, were averaged into a single record (one per well), and rounded according to USGS protocols. For evaluation and reporting, the water-quality data were further combined with physical attributes and classified by lithology, topographic position, physiographic province, region, redox, and pH (as standalone matrix, one row per well). A second data matrix file incorporating minimum reporting levels for censored and low-reported values (set to 0.99X highest...

This dataset contains quality-assurance and quality-control data (QA/QC) not publicly available in the online National Water Information System (NWIS) for the Pennsylvania Groundwater Monitoring Network collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019. The quality-control data (such as blanks and replicates) were collected at a subset of sites to ensure that the data meets specific data-quality objectives of this program. Also included in this data release are the supplemental tables for the accompanying USGS publication “Characterization of Ambient Groundwater Quality within a State-wide, Fixed Station Monitoring Network in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019.” The supplemental tables consist of: 1)...

These datasets contain all publicly available analytical data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at each location sampled by the Pennsylvania Pesticides in Vulnerable Groundwaters program from 2021 and 2022. Additional analytical data will be appended following the conclusion of each sampling season, and all data is made publicly available in the on-line National Water Information System (NWIS). The Pennsylvania Pesticides in Vulnerable Groundwater program is a long running cooperative effort between USGS and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). USGS and PDA have sampled for pesticides and a variety of other constituents in domestic groundwater at locations around the state since 2003....

Heavy rainfall occurred across Pennsylvania on September 1 and 2, 2021, as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Ida. Much of eastern and southcentral Pennsylvania received five to ten inches of rain and most of the rainfall occurred in a little more than six hours. Widespread substantial flooding occurred in the area, particularly impacted was the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Flood frequencies were computed for 52 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages impacted by the flooding in eastern and southcentral Pennsylvania using peak flow data through 2021. Flood documentation maps showing the extent and depth of flooding from the September 1-2, 2021, event were generated for five communities in southeastern...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Geological Survey, estimated groundwater recharge by automated streamflow-hydrograph methods for watersheds throughout Pennsylvania. These data serve as an update to previous estimates of groundwater recharge described in Risser and others (2005). The current analysis provides estimates of groundwater recharge from the recession-curve displacement method (RORA) and estimates of runoff and baseflow from the hydrograph-separation technique PART. Additional hydrograph separation methods, HySEP-Fixed, HySEP-LocMin, HySEP-Slide, BFI-Standard, BFI-Modified, DF-One Param, and DF-Two Param were...

This dataset contains all publicly-available analytical data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at each location within the Pennsylvania Groundwater Monitoring Network (GWMN) from 2015 to present. Additional analytical data will be appended following the conclusion of each sampling season, and all data is made publicly available in the online National Water Inventory System (NWIS). This dataset serves as a repository for data used by the Pennsylvania Groundwater Monitoring Network map, found here: https://rconnect.chs.usgs.gov/PA_GWMN_map/
