High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. A total of 800 acres (324 ha) were mapped. Thirteen map classes were used to describe the landscape. Among these were six plant association, one alliance, two non-natural map classes (Disturbed, Development), three local types, and one un-vegetated natural class (Open Water).

Study on the cattle industry in Canyonlands National Park. The intention of the study is to trace the history of the cattle industry as it was done in the park. The study is divided into three sections: 1) discussion of the open range cattle industry in the last decades of the 19th century 2) a look at the park itself, the topography, Colorado and Green Rivers and 3) a look at the land in the park located between the rivers, Island in the Sky and White Rim country. Published by Historic Preservation Team, Denver Service Center, National Park Service, U.S. Dept. of the Interior, in 1972.

High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. These data describe vegetation for the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area through the formation of polygons of similar vegetation cover. The desired minimum mapping unit was 0.5 hectares in size. However polygons as small as 0.1 hectares are included. Vegetation is classified according to the US National Vegetation Classification Standard (NVCS, http://www.fgdc.gov/standards/projects/FGDC-standards-projects/vegetation/NVCS_V2_FINAL_2008-02.pdf) to the association level when possible (31 classes), to the alliance level. A "Barren" class and a "Disturbed" class are also included for a total of 38 categories.

High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. The National Park Service (NPS), in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), has implemented a program to develop a uniform hierarchical vegetation mapping methodology and classification at a national level and apply it to National Parks. The purpose of the data is to document the state of vegetation on Mt. Wanda at the John Muir National Historic Site during 2004, thereby providing a snapshot of conditions to assist in future monitoring and management. High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. Vegetation at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area/Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument and environs was mapped and classified by a combination of field plot data collected in 2004 and photointerpreted from 1:12000 scale infrared aerial photography acquired in 2002. The protocols and standards used are those described in the National Vegetation Program documents.

This vegetation classification and mapping effort encompasses 413,031 acres (167,148 ha) within the Alamosa Basin, east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in south central Colorado. The mapping boundary is made up of several management units from a variety of government and private agencies. This project used previously collected ShoreZone imagery to map nearly 1,600 km of coastline between Wales and Kotzebue. With additional mapping supported by the Arctic LCC and National Park Service, this effort completed the Kotzebue Sound shoreline, which now has been included in the state-wide ShoreZone dataset. The complete ShoreZone dataset for the region was used to conduct a coastal hazards analysis and create maps that identify areas undergoing rapid coastal erosion and areas that are sensitive to inundation by storm surge and sea level rise

The compilation of an accurate and contemporary digital shoreline for Alaska is an important step in understanding coastal processes and measuring changes in coastal storm characteristics. Following an explosion at the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig on April 20, 2010, MC252 an estimated 3.19 million barrels of oil leaked into the Northern Gulf of Mexico over 87 days. The endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii [Lk]) has a long established record of using the area near the well as primary foraging grounds. Resulting short- and long-term negative impacts of the oil spill on sea turtles could induce changes in the health and fitness of the Lk population.
