These data were collected to estimate detection probability of Bombus affinis at known occupied sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa in 2021. Data were also used to determine the effect of weather, observer experience, and habitat quality on Bombus affinis detection probability.
Plant data were collected on 16, 1-ha experimental blocks in C3 and Marsh Creek units of Seney National Wildlife Refuge, 2006-2010. The percent cover of each plant taxon, moss as a group, and open area was recorded sing a modified line-intercept method for each of 25 sampling points within a block. Sampling points were equidistantly spaced, with 5 points spaced 25 m apart along each of 5 transects also spaced 25 m apart within each sampling block. Within each unit, we selected 4 pairs of blocks representing sedge-shrub habitat, with one of the pair assigned to spring burning (C3, May 2008) or summer burning (Marsh Creek, 2007 and 2008). This before-after-control-impact design provided for data collection two growing...

This data set consists of data collected during 2012 in Badlands National Park in South Dakota that were used in the analysis in support of the PLOS One article titled "Exotic plant infestation is associated with decreased modularity and increased numbers of connectors in mixed-grass prairie pollination networks". The data consist of three spreadsheets. An insect richness, interactions, and flower count data set is a summary of counts of individual flowers (by species) and insects captured on flowers (that were found to carry pollen) over the course of a study on the effects of infestation by Cirsium arvense on pollinator interactions with native plants. Three dominant exotic plants, C. arvense, Convolvulus arvensis,...

The Yellowknife Study Area (YSA),Northwest Territories, Canada, was established in 1961 by H. W. Murdy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for the study of wetland and waterfowl ecology. The study area is located on the western edge of the Precambrian Shield and edge of the taiga and is recognized for its high wetland densities and waterfowl abundance. The region is underlain by discontinuous, warm permafrost and hence vulnerable to a warming climate. The completion of Highway 3 in early 1960s provided the first access to the region for development, research, and monitoring. The YSA is a 38-square km area centered on Highway 3, extending 48 km in length. In the 1960s, it encompassed 262 natural ponds and 313 man-made...

In association with plant cover data, data on litter depth, water depth, and graminoid height were collected on 16, 1-ha experimental blocks in C3 and Marsh Creek units of Seney National Wildlife Refuge, 2006-2010. Within each unit, we selected 4 pairs of blocks representing sedge-shrub habitat, with one of the pair assigned to spring burning (C3, May 2008) or summer burning (Marsh Creek, 2007 and 2008). This before-after-control-impact design provided for data collection two growing seasons before the burn (2006, 16 blocks; 2007, 15 blocks) and two-three growing seasons (2008, 2009, and 2010; 14 blocks) after burning; the unburned plot of each pair served as the control, and the burned plot of each pair the treatment....

This data release presents data that were collected as part of a larger effort to assess factors that regulate ecosystem metabolism in small ponds. This work was part of an international collaborative effort with the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON). From May to October 2019, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and light were measured throughout the water-depth profile of two natural wetlands and four artificial ponds located near Jamestown, North Dakota. Meteorological and bathymetric data also were collected. The natural wetlands are representative of semipermanent wetlands of the Prairie Pothole Region of North America. The artificial ponds, while smaller than the natural ponds, were managed to represent...
Dataset contains locations of drainage tile permits in North Dakota obtained from the State Water Commission as of October 2013. This dataset provides the latitude and longitude of the location given on the permit, which is not provided by the State Water Commission database. Additionally, overlap of permit polygons (if depicted in a geospatial application) is possible from two permits that share the same area. Permit applications that were marked as denied or that did not require a permit as determined by the State Water Commission were removed from this database.

These maps were developed to support an effort to understand the spatial characteristics of piping plover (Charadrius melodus) nesting habitats. The maps show the expected nesting habitat distributions and piping plover intensity between 2000 and 2021 in the U.S. Prairie Pothole Region.

Data file containing the raw responses to an online sedimentation survey from 49 National Wildlife Refuges in U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 3 (an area encompassing the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin) and Region 6 (an area encompassing the states of Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming). The survey was issued in the spring of 2014. This file contains responses to only those questions that were listed as being dichotomous (e.g., yes or no) or multiple choice in order to protect the identities of the respondents.

Dataset contains locations of drainage tile permits in South Dakota obtained from County and Local Water Board records. The counties included are: Brown, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hanson, Kingsbury, Lake, McCook, Minnehaha, Moody, Roberts, Spink, and Turner. The date permits records were collected vary by county. A majority of the permits from counties were collected as of January 2012. Two counties (Hanson and Minnehaha) were updated in December,2013. In addition to the location (as a TRS) and available (if given)pipe information recorded on the permit, this dataset provides the latitude and longitude of the location given on the permit, which is not typically provided on the permit application or record. Additionally,...

The data set provides information on the fledging times of passerine grassland birds. Data were collected from video surveillance of 70 nests of 9 bird species that nested in grasslands of Minnesota and North Dakota, USA. The data include year, unique nest number, species, date and time of fledging by nestling.
