The Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership (MGLP), a Fish Habitat Partnership (FHP) recognized by the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) Board in March 2009, has been developing a dataset for the Midwest glacial lakes, equivalent to the NHD, since 2008. This project will complete development of a standardized lakeshed dataset that identifies the geographic extent of each lake, its local catchment, and tributary catchment.

These protocols are intended to identify key questions to be addressed, preferred approaches to addressing these questions, and issues likely to be encountered by scientists studying impacts of wind energy development on sage-grouse. I discuss advantages and disadvantages of possible study designs. A full BACI (Before After Control Impact) design with five years of preconstruction data and at least five years of post-construction data that estimates fundamental demographic parameters and habitat selection over a distance gradient from wind facilities provides the strongest design. Research proposals considered for funding by the GS3C-Sage-Grouse Collaborative will be evaluated based on their abilities to adhere...
Land-use change, invasive species, and climate change have dramatically impaired ecosystem function worldwide. Understanding how changes to ecosystems impact species of conservation concern is essential for effective conservation delivery. Of particular importance are environments that provide disproportionate ecosystem services. Throughout the Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative, playas provide disproportionate ecological services, including essential stopover habitat for migratory waterbirds. Anthropogenic change to playa distribution, abundance, and function may impact the ecosystem services provided, with demographic consequences for priority species. We will address partner needs by developing a...

Estimates of nutrient loading to the Gulf of Mexico indicate that nine states within the Mississippi River Basin are responsible for approximately 75% of all nitrogen and phosphorus delivered to the Gulf. The Mississippi Basin supports a rich assemblage of fish species; at least 25% of all species in the conterminous United States are found in the Basin. These assemblages reflect their habitats, human landscape disturbances, and fragmentation of the river network by dams. Climate also has close associations with aquatic habitat conditions and ultimately fish community composition. Climate change is anticipated to lead to additional changes in stream habitats, including changing thermal properties and flow regimes....
