This is a set of scripts developed by Madeline Steele in 2013 as a part of the Arid Lands Initiative (ALI) spatial prioritization analysis. They are provided here both as methodological documentation and because they may be useful for other projects. They are not set up to be imported into an ArcGIS toolbox, and all path names would have to be changed before they could be used. They are commented, and variables should be at the top, but they are probably not very useful without a bit of previous Python experience. In May 2014, the GNLCC Steering Committee approved two pilot projects explore approaches to landscape-scale coordination to enhance science-based management across the GNLCC. This project will apply the results of an on-going climate change vulnerability assessment to the management of two complex landscapes. The vulnerability assessment project team will work with mangers, land-owners, and conservation practitioners to explore 1) how downscaled climate datasets, modeled vegetation changes, and information on estimated species sensitivities can be used to develop climate change adaptation strategies, and 2) how model results and datasets can be made more useful for informing the management of species and landscapes. The White House Council for Environmental Quality has identified two national watersheds to pilot large-scale drought resiliency implementation. Greater sage-grouse genetic connectivity is essential to the species persistence across the Great Northern landscape; without such connectivity the greater sage-grouse may suffer the same fate as many other related species of grouse, which disappeared from the middle and eastern portion of the United States due to loss of habitat coupled with inbreeding depression. The NorWeST webpage hosts stream temperature data and climate scenarios in a variety of user-friendly digital formats for streams and rivers across the western U.S. The temperature database was compiled from hundreds of biologists and hydrologists working for >100 resource agencies and contains >200,000,000 hourly temperature recordings at >20,000 unique stream sites.
