These mapped faults are modified from Plate 2, Principal structural features, Gulf of Mexico Basin (compiled by T.E. Ewing and R.F. Lopez) in Volume J, The Geology of North America (1991); Plate 2, Geologic map of the U.S. Appalachians showing the Laurentian margin and the Taconic orogen (compiled by D.R. Rankin, A.A. Drake, and N.M. Ratcliffe) in Volume F-2, The Geology of North America (1989); and Plate 9, Tectonic map of the Ouachita orogen (compiled by W.A. Thomas) in Volume F-2, The Geology of North America (1989). This dataset contains basic data and interpretations developed and compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Framework Studies and Assessment of the Gulf Coast Project. Other major sources of data...

These are shapefiles and coverages that represent areas of combined State and Federal coal leases and mined-out areas in the Yampa coal field. Yamaleasg contains polygons for which resources were not calculated for the A coal zone. Yambleasg contains polygons for which resources were not calculated for the B coal zone, etc.

This is a coverage of the Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area. The study area outline was drawn on the county lines that most closely outline the coal-bearing rocks in the Colorado Plateau Region. The county outlines originate from a national coverage for which lines were extracted from U.S. Census 1990 TIGER/line files using an AML program written by Nebert, D., and Negri, M., USGS-Water Resources Division (WRD), running on two Data General 6220 servers.

The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown herein as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...

A cells polygon feature class was created by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in the State of Pennsylvania. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown or dry. Data were retrieved from the Pennsylvania Internet Record Imaging System (PA*IRIS). Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary well data. No proprietary data are displayed...

This shapefile includes anticlines and synclines of the Lower White River coal field. Nominal map scale is 500,000. The original digital source data for this shapefile was the digital geologic map of Colorado.

Geology,
This is a line coverage of the geologic structural features within the Kaiparowits Plateau. Structural features include synclines, anticlines, folds and faults; and are shown in Hettinger and others, chap. T. Faults and fold axes are located along the Earth's surface. This does not imply where they are located in the subsurface.

This is a shapefile and the final unioned polygon coverage used to calculate coal resources of the lower Blackhawk Formation in the southern Wasatch coal assessment area. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, reliability, overburden categories, and net coal thickness categories. The final unioned coverage was clipped by the resource boundary polygon, which is described in the metadata file for the shapefile WS_BND.
This file contains geologic units of the southern Wasatch Plateau represented as polygons.

This is a polygon coverage of the outcrop of the John Henry Member of the Straight Cliffs Formation east of 112 degrees of longitude in the Kaiparowits Plateau, southern Utah. This polygon was used to represent the areas underlain by the Calico Sequence boundary. This polygon was also used as the "outside" clipping polygon for several of the data layers including the overburden and isopach coverages. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.
This is a polygon coverage and shapefile that contains undivided Upper Cretaceous rocks that include (in descending order) the Smoky Hollow and Tibbet Canyon Mbs. of the Straight Cliffs Fm., and the Tropic Shale and Dakota Fm. This coverage shows where these rocks are exposed along the outcrop and are buried in the subsurface in the Kaiparowits Plateau study area, southern Utah. The base of the Dakota Fm. was used to define the Kaiparowits Plateau for areas east of 112 degrees of longitude. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.
The hydrogen index (HI) is a parameter obtained from Rock-Eval data which reflects general hydrocarbon generation and maturation trends in petroleum systems. In the Mississippian Barnett Shale, the hydrogen index was used to map general boundaries between regions of oil and gas generation within the extents of the formation. Hydrogen index values were obtained via Rock-Eval analyses of Barnett Shale core samples. In this system, HI values greater than 100 represent primarily oil generation and HI values less than 100 represent primarily gas generation. Secondary gas generation is indicated by HI values less than 50. In addition, the 100 HI line was utilized to establish part of the assessment unit (AU) boundaries...
