This collection consists of field notebooks created by the personnel of the Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) and its predecessor, the Minnesota Geological and Natural History Survey (MGNHS). The notes include basic data used to compile annual reports and bulletins on geological matters. For a description of the extent of geological work performed during the eras of the MGNHS and MGS, consult George M. Schwartz, “History of the Minnesota Geological Survey,” which identifies the individual studies made by officers of the survey between 1872 and 1963. The MGS was a major source of funding for faculty research, which focused on field petrology, mineralogy and economic geology and aligned to the individual professional...

The Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources (ADMMR) operated from 1940 to 2011 to promote the development of Arizona's mineral resources through technical and educational processes. This collection consists of various reports, maps, records and related materials acquired by ADMMR regarding mining properties in Arizona. At times, property owners supplied information, ADMMR staff performed field visits or staff clipped articles from periodicals and publications. Each record's title refers to the primary name of a unique mineral locality. Alternate names of mines will be included in the fully cataloged records. Since the former index (the Arizona Mineral Industry Location System) included not only mineral...

Much of the data was originally derived from Arizona Department of Mines and Minerals files. Doug Martin was a Phoenix area mining consultant during the 1980s and was Arizona's State Mine Inspector during the 1990s - 2000s.

Mason Coggin was director of Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources during the mid 1990s. These images were either shot by or collected by him. The newest photo showing a date is from 1953, but some photos were clearly taken as late as the 1970s or 1980s. Perhaps better than any other photo collection from ADMMR, this collection focuses on miners, mines, machinery and buildings. There are several images of the Bisbee and Ajo areas. This collection has not yet been cataloged. Please contact the Arizona Geological Survey to inquire about this collection.

This collection of maps mostly includes information published and compiled from the 1920s to the late 1940s, with outliers originating from the late 1800s to the early 1990s and shows information that is pertinent to the Arkansas Geological Survey. The map collection contains topographic field maps, hand drawn cross sections, geologic field maps.

This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 2) consists of 505 enlargements of unrectified, black-and-white aerial photographs flown along Maryland's barrier islands during 13 different time periods (or "sets") between October 1952 and July 1964. Each of the photographs in the collection is about 2 feet x 2 feet in size. Some of the photographs have a scale of 1:14,400 or 1:6,000 stamped on the front. On the backs of many of the photographs is another stamp of "1" = 200 ft". The photographs cover the Maryland section of two narrow barrier islands that lie along Maryland's Atlantic coast, separated by the Ocean City Inlet: Fenwick Island to the north and Assateague Island to the...

The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) Geologic Map Database (MAPBIB) contains an inventory of approximately 2850 geologic maps covering various parts of Utah, that date from about 1890 to present, and that vary from formally published USGS and UGS Map and Bulletin Series maps, to informal consulting reports and internal unpublished ?sketch? maps. About half of these maps were published in production runs in which hundreds of copies were printed ? most of these maps are still widely distributed and readily available. However, over 1000 of the maps in our MAPBIB database were produced in only very limited numbers, are completely out of print, are in obscure or remote libraries, or are limited-distribution ?gray? literature...

The Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources operated from 1940 to 2011 to promote the development of Arizona's mineral resources through technical and educational processes. This collection mainly consists of large maps that were flat or rolled upon arrival at ADMMR. Maps that were interfiled in reports remain with their respective collections. Many of these maps were the original drawings from field investigations of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Reduced or slightly modified versions are often found reproduced in U.S. Bureau of Mines reports describing Arizona’s mineral resources organized by commodity or mineral district. The maps reflect the changing nature of mining and exploration in Arizona during the...

In the 1930’s the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was created by the Federal Government to finance the development and operation of gold, silver and tin mines. The funds were to come from the “Silver Purchase Act” which purchased silver from the miners for 71 cents per ounce and produced coins valued at $1.29. In previous years the loans were only available to gold, silver and tin mines but the law was amended in 1941 making the funds available to operators of all metal mines. The RFC contacted the Department asking it to provide an analysis and review of applications from Arizona for preliminary development loans. The Board meeting of 7/11/42 authorized the Department to enter into an agreement with the Reconstruction...
