Sport fisheries season and management summaries for 2010 with preliminary information for 2011 in the Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area are presented. The Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area (KGMA) consists of all waters of the Kuskokwim River drainage, Kuskokwim Bay, and waters extending from the Naskonat Peninsula in the north to the south side of Cape Newenham in the south. Sport and subsistence fisheries target all five Pacific salmon species, as well as rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma), sheefish (Stenodus leucichthys), Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), and northern pike (Esox lucius). In 2010, angler-days totaled 21,339 with the largest proportion coming from the Kanektok...

Information specific to recreational fisheries in the Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area in 2011 and preliminary information for 2012 is presented. Estimates of fishing effort, total catch, and effort is summarized through the 2011 season. This information is provided to the Alaska Board of Fisheries (board), as well as to the general public and interested parties. Summaries of major fisheries within the area are detailed, including descriptions of the performance of these fisheries, regulatory actions by the board, social and biological issues, and descriptions of ongoing research and management activities. The remote waters of the Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area supported approximately 22,000 angler-days of...

Northern pike, Esox lucius, are not native to aquatic habitats of southcentral Alaska south of the Alaska Range. Introduction of northern pike into these freshwater systems may have deleterious effects on native fish, including various species of Pacific salmon. This report summarizes the continued effort to restore salmonid habitat by removing invasive northern pike from four freshwater lakes on the Kenai Peninsula.

Monitoring 1-Changes in Plant and Animal Distribution: Fauna
Historical escapement and run size of fall chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta was reconstructed from incomplete sonar, weir, counting tower, mark-recapture, aerial survey, and foot survey data of varying precision from 1974 to 2007. The resulting estimates of drainage-wide escapement were fitted to an age-structured Ricker spawner-recruit model. Bayesian statistical methods were employed, which allowed for realistic assessment of uncertainty in the presence of measurement error, serial correlation, and missing data.
