The USGS Geomagnetism Program operates a network of magnetic observatories that collect vector and scalar magnetometer data for use in Earth main-field modeling, geophysics research, space physics research, and space weather hazard assessment and mitigation. Until mid-2011, only 1-minute time resolution magnetic field measurements were archived with the INTERMAGNET consortium following international magnetic observatory standards. 1-second time resolution magnetic field measurements, which had already been collected by all the USGS observatories for up to almost a decade prior, started being archived with INTERMAGNET on June 13, 2011, or July 27, 2012 in the case of the more recently constructed Deadhorse (DED)...

This three-dimensional (3D) seismic velocity model includes a detailed domain covering the greater San Francisco Bay urban region and a regional domain at a coarser resolution covering a larger region. Version 21.0 is a re-release of v08.3.0 in a new storage scheme. The model was constructed by assigning elastic properties (density, Vp, Vs, Qp, and Qs) to grids of points based on the geologic unit and depth from the ground surface. The model is stored in HDF5 files using the GeoModelGrids (https://geomodelgrids.readthedocs.io) storage scheme (see the README.md file for an overview). GeoModelGrids provides a high-level interface for accessing the model. The model can also be accessed using the HDF5 application programming...

This data release complements the following publication: Goldberg, D. E., P. Koch, D. Melgar, S. Riquelme, and W. L. Yeck (2022). Beyond the Teleseism: Introducing Regional Seismic and Geodetic Data into Routine USGS Finite-Fault Modeling, Seismol. Res. Lett. XX, 1–16, doi: 10.1785/0220220047. Rapid finite-fault models are published by the US Geological Survey (USGS) National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) routinely following large (M7+) earthquakes. Finite-fault models estimate the spatiotemporal evolution of heterogeneous slip across a fault. The type of data used as input to a finite-fault inversion affects the overall resolution of the model and the slip pattern itself. In the associated manuscript, we...

This three-dimensional (3D) seismic velocity model includes a detailed domain covering the greater San Francisco Bay urban region and a regional domain at a coarser resolution covering a larger region. Version 21.1 updates only the detailed domain with adjustments to the elastic properties east and north of the San Francisco Bay. There are no changes to the underlying 3D geologic model or the regional domain seismic velocity model. Version 21.1 of the detailed domain fits seamlessly inside version 21.0 of the regional domain without any jumps in elastic properties across the boundary between the two domains. The model was constructed by assigning elastic properties (density, Vp, Vs, Qp, and Qs) to grids of points...

The data presented in this data release represent the records from a rain gage near Black Hollow, CO, a watershed that is tributary to the Cache La Poudre River. On 20 July 2021 a large rainstorm moved over the watershed and generated a large debris flow that destroyed several homes, resulting in four fatalities. The watershed had been burned prior to the rainstorm during the Cameron Peak wildfire (13 August – 2 December 2020). Here we present time-series data the Dry Creek rain gage, which captures the storm that triggered the Black Hollow debris flow. Latitude and Longitude data are included in the header. The timezone of the timestamp is in Mountain Standard Time, note that the storm occurred when the local...

This data release comprises a georeferenced raster layer depicting the estimated susceptibility to intense rainfall-induced landslides in Puerto Rico, which is a supplement to: Hughes, K.S., and Schulz, W.H., 2020, Map depicting susceptibility to landslides triggered by intense rainfall, Puerto Rico: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2020–1022, 91 p., 1 plate, scale 1:150,000, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20201022. Users of this layer are strongly encouraged to read the text herein and available with Open-File Report 2020-1022. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY MAP Landslides commonly occur in Puerto Rico during or soon after intense rainfall and present significant hazards to the built environment...

This page houses model results used in the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model, 2023. We include results from four geodetic deformation models (Pollitz, Zeng, Shen, Evans), post-seismic relaxation ("ghost transient") calculation (Hearn), and creep calculation (Johnson/Murray). Geologic deformation model results are available in Hatem et al. (2022a). An overview of all model procedures and comparisons is available at: Pollitz, F.F., E. L. Evans, E. H. Field, A. E. Hatem, E. H. Hearn, K. M. Johnson, J. R. Murray, P. M. Powers, Z.-K. Shen, C. Wespestad, and Y. Zeng (2022).
