The Historic Topographic Maps Collection consists of compiled and digitally rendered two series of topographic maps for Virginia. Historical topographic maps can be useful resources for those interested in researching the changes in a particular area over time. Maps of different ages can also illustrate how development has occurred in a location. These map series were produced by the United States Geological Survey in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Virginia. They are in 15-minute and 30-minute quadrangle format, respectively, and range in age from 1884 to 1962. Detailed map explanations for each series have been scanned separately.
