This data release contains site information and potential explanatory factor data for 1,899 groundwater sites. These sites were used to assess groundwater quality in aquifers used for domestic and public drinking water supply in the southeastern San Joaquin Valley. The southeastern San Joaquin Valley (SESJV) study unit consists of five study areas whose boundaries are defined by the eponymous California Department of Water Resources groundwater subbasins of the San Joaquin Valley groundwater basin: Madera-Chowchilla, Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and Tulare Lake. This dataset represents 505 campsites along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon with associated debris flow probabilities calculated for approximately a 100-year period (Griffiths and others, 2004) and geomorphic attributes mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey, Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (USGS-GCMRC) (Hadley and others, 2018). The campsite polygons were developed as part of a master campsite database that was a collaborative effort to maintain between the National Park Service in Grand Canyon National Park and the USGS-GCMRC. These datasets are created during the irrigation reanalysis workflow (irrigation_reanalysis.zip). The actet_openet.cbh, potet_openet.cbh, and dyn_ag_frac.param area created during step one of the workflow when converting daily OpenET/SSEBop results into input for the NHM. The nhm_2000_2020_ag_irrigation_add.csv, and nhm_2000_2020_ag_irrigation_add_vol.csv area estimated daily results output by the NHM.

This dataset represents 740 tributary canyons and/or watersheds adjacent to the Colorado River in Grand Canyon with associated debris flow probabilities from 2004. Also, these data include tributarys canyon and/or watersheds to Glen Canyon and several smaller watersheds in Grand Canyon where debris flow data is currently unavailable. Historic probabilities of debris flow occurrence were estimated by modeling the known frequency distribution with drainage basin parameters observed to control the process by which debris flows initiate and travel to the river. The USGS, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), created a series of geospatial products of the Scotts Creek Watershed in Lake County, California, using National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery from 2018, 2020 and 2022. The imagery was downloaded from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Geospatial Data Gateway (https://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov). This digital dataset contains groundwater level observations for 364 wells, in addition to well construction information, from 1916 to 2014 in the Central Valley, California. Groundwater level observations are used to create groundwater level contours and to calibrate the groundwater levels for the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2). Groundwater level observations were collected from five sources (USGS, 2018; SLDMWA, 2018; CADWR, 2004; CRNA, 2018).

In January 2024 adult monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758)) were found dead near their overwintering site in Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California, USA. Ten of the deceased monarchs (six females and four males) were collected from three sites by staff at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History and sent to the U.S. Geological Survey Organic Chemistry Research Laboratory for analysis. Published geologic maps of the south polar region of Mars, made using either Mariner 9 (Condit and Soderblom, 1978) or Viking Orbiter (Tanaka and Scott, 1987) images, identified only layered deposits and polar ice within this map area. This dataset includes a line shapefile of surface traces that were calculated using structural measurements taken in the Stillwater Complex, Montana (Stillwater_Complex_Surface_Traces.shp), along with a .csv file of full references for the published sources used (Stillwater_SurfaceTrace_sources.csv). The surface traces represent the lateral extension of geologic features. The East Pisco Basin is one of several forearc basins situated on the coastal plain of Peru between the Andean Cordillera and Peru-Chile Trench. During the Cenozoic, successive marine transgressions across the East Pisco Basin deposited sequences of Paleogene and Neogene age. Biochronologic studies suggest that a hiatus of approximately 12 million years (~32-20 Ma) separates the youngest Paleogene deposits from the oldest Neogene deposits. A newly recognized lower Miocene sequence, provisionally named the Tunga Formation, shortens that hiatus. The following database provides location and description of samples from the East Pisco Basin, checklists of microfossil assemblages, and taxonomic notes for those assemblages.
