The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) worked in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to document the August and September, 2017 Hurricane Harvey storm event in southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. Hurricane Harvey was the most significant rainfall event in United States history in scope and rainfall totals since rainfall records began during the 1880s. From August 25 through September 1, 2017, some areas in southeastern Texas received more than 60 inches of rain; large areas received more than 40 inches of rain. This data release contains the flood inundation polygons, flood-depth rasters, mapped boundaries, and high-water mark (HWM) locations for the selected river basins, coastal...
Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas on August 25 as a category 4 hurricane with wind gusts exceeding 150 miles per hour. As Harvey moved inland the forward motion of the storm slowed down and produced tremendous rainfall amounts to southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. Historic flooding occurred in Texas and Louisiana as a result of the widespread, heavy rainfall over an 8-day period in Louisiana in August and September 2017. Following the storm event, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrographers recovered and documented 2,123 high-water marks in Texas, noting location and height of the water above land surface. Many of these high-water marks were used to create flood-inundation maps for...

These polygon boundaries, inundation extents, and depth rasters were created to provide an extent of flood inundation along the Lumber River within the community of Fair Bluff, North Carolina. The upstream and downstream reach extent is determined by the location of high-water marks, not extending the boundary far past the outermost high-water marks. In areas of uncertainty of flood extent, the model boundary is lined up with the flood inundation polygon extent. This boundary polygon was used to extract the final flood inundation polygon and depth layer from the flood water surface raster file. The passage of Hurricane Matthew through central and eastern North Carolina during October 7-9, 2016, brought heavy rainfall...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Natural Resources Department of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe, conducted a study of the extent of flooding near the community of Odanah, Wisconsin, caused by the July 11, 2016 storm event in northern Wisconsin and the Bad River Reservation. Immediately after the flooding, the USGS and the Bad River Natural Resources Department documented 108 high-water marks (HWM) in the Odanah area. The HWMs were used to create flood-inundation maps to support the response and recovery operations. Three sets of flood-inundation polygon boundaries, flood-inundation extents, flood depths, and high-water marks were compiled for the Bad River, Beartrap...

Digital flood-inundation maps for an approximate 7.5-mile reach of the Peckman River in New Jersey, which extends from Verona Lake Dam in the Township of Verona downstream through the Township of Cedar Grove and the Township of Little Falls to the confluence with the Passaic River in the Borough of Woodland Park, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Science Web site at http://water.usgs.gov/osw/flood_inundation/ depict estimates of the probable areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to selected water levels (stages) at the USGS...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), prepared hydro-conditioned geographic information systems (GIS) data layers for use in the updated New Jersey StreamStats 2022 application (U.S. Geological Survey, 2022). This update features improvements in base-elevation resolution from 10 meters to 10 feet and stream centerline hydrography from 1:24,000 to 1:2,400 scale. Hydro conditioning is the process of burning single-line stream centerlines at the 1:2,400 scale into a digital elevation model to produce flow direction and flow accumulation grids. This data release contains raster digital datasets for a 10-foot digital elevation model, a flow...
