For over 125 years, the U.S. Geological Survey streamgage network has provided important hydrologic information about rivers and streams throughout the Nation. Traditional streamgage methods provide reliable stage and streamflow data but typically only monitor stage at a single location in a river and require frequent calibration streamflow measurements. Direct measurements are not always feasible, therefore improved sensors and methods are being deployed at gages to better document streamflow conditions between measurements. The technology and techniques of reach-scale monitoring allow the U.S. Geological Survey to collect more data across the full range of streamflow without requiring that a hydrographer be present....

These data were compiled for assessing how geomorphic changes measured as topographic differences from repeat surveys represent measured and modelled estimates of aeolian sediment transport and dune mobility. Objective(s) of our study were to investigate whether topographic changes can serve as a proxy for aeolian transport and sediment mobility in dunefield environments. This was accomplished by relating topographic changes to modeled and observed estimates of sediment transport and dune mobility over months to decades within a partially vegetated dunefield starved of upwind sediment supplies. We specifically tested if topographic changes measured as net and total volume changes and topographic surface roughness...

These data were compiled to enable estimation of aeolian dune field sediment budgets calculated using remote sensing methods. The objective of the study was to evaluate sediment budgets calculated for the Lees Ferry dune field in Grand Canyon, Earth as a terrestrial analog for aeolian dune fields in Valles Marineris, Mars. These data represent digital elevation models (DEM) of the topography of the Lees Ferry dune field in February and May, 2019, respectively. These data were collected with an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing survey conducted on February 28th and then repeated on May 2nd, 2019. The images acquired with the UAV surveys were processed with photogrammetric modelling to produce the DEMs....

The dataset consists of a .csv and shapefile of measurements of surface velocity magnitude and direction at the Colorado River at Windy Gap near Granby, CO, on June 13, 2022. The dataset contains approximately 2 km of river length. The surface velocity measurements were made by applying Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) techniques, using overlapping videos collected by small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). Additional attributes, including divergence, curl, shear, and strain, were calculated from the surface velocity measurements and are included in the dataset. This data is ideal for instantaneous discharge, shear, strain, and divergence, but less so for eddies and mean reach values. This is because...

Field measurements of flow velocity were acquired from a reach of the Illinois River at Marseilles, IL, on June 7, 2022, to support research on estimating surface flow velocities from remotely sensed data via particle image velocimetry (PIV). The velocity measurements included in this data release were obtained using a TRDI RiverPro acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed from a boat with an outboard motor. This data release provides depth-averaged flow velocities derived from the raw ADCP data using the TRDI WinRiver II processing software. The spatial location of each velocity measurement was obtained using a differential GPS included as part of the RiverPro instrument package. The map projection and...
