Wildfires affect streams and rivers when they burn vegetation and scorch the ground. This makes floods more likely to happen and reduces water quality. Public managers, first responders, fire scientists, and hydrologists need timely information before and after a fire to plan for floods and water treatment. This project will create a method to combine national fire databases with the StreamStats water web mapping application to help stakeholders make informed decisions. When the project is finished, people will be able to use StreamStats to estimate post-wildfire peak flows in streams and rivers for most of the United States (where data is available). There will also be tools that allow users to trace upstream and...

The U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, implemented a South Carolina StreamStats application in 2018. This shapefile dataset contains vector lines representing streams, rivers, and ditches that were used in preparing the underlying data for the South Carolina StreamStats application. Data were compiled from multiple sources, but principally represent lidar-derived linework from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina Lidar Consortium. The South Carolina hydrography lines were created from elevation rasters that ranged from 4 to 10 ft resolution, to produce a product of approximately 1:6,000-scale....

Streamflow data and statistics are vitally important for proper protection and management of both the water quality and water quantity of Alabama streams. Such data and statistics are available at U.S. Geological Survey streamflow-gaging stations, also referred to as streamgages or stations, but are often needed at ungaged stream locations. To address this need, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with numerous Alabama State agencies and organizations, developed regional regression equations for estimating selected low-flow frequency statistics and mean annual flow for ungaged locations in Alabama that are not substantially affected by tides, regulation, diversions, or other anthropogenic influences. This...

In cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) calculated over 20 different basin characteristics as part of preparing the Pennsylvania StreamStats 2020 application. These datasets are raster representations of various environmental, geological, and land use attributes within the Pennsylvania StreamStats 2020 study area, and will be served in the Pennsylvania StreamStats 2020 application to describe delineated watersheds. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools that are useful for water-resources...
