Sediment samples and samples for water-toxicity testing were collected during 2014 from several streams in San Antonio, Texas known locally as the Westside creeks (Alazán, Apache, Martínez, and San Pedro Creeks) and from the San Antonio River. Samples were collected once during base-flow and again after periods of storm-water runoff (post-storm conditions) to determine baseline sediment- and water-quality conditions. Streambed-sediment samples were analyzed for selected constituents, including trace elements and organic contaminants such as pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), brominated flame retardants, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Estimates of land use categories are an essential component for computing the water budget of the High Plains aquifer. These raster land-use data represent yearly estimated land use for the High Plains from 1949 to 2008. These data were developed using the FOREcasting SCEnarios of future land cover (FORE-SCE) model (Sohl and others, 2007) and then processed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS software used to process...

Baseflow is the portion of streamflow derived from groundwater flow. It is an important component of the groundwater budget, and can be estimated using known total streamflow at given points through time. Daily streamflow data was collected from 25 streamflow gaging stations across the northern High Plains Groundwater Availability Study (NHPGAS) area from the National Water Information System (NWIS) and the Nebraska Department of...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Harris‐Galveston Subsidence District, City of Houston, Fort Bend Subsidence District, and Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District has produced this dataset of groundwater‐level altitudes and groundwater‐level altitude changes in the Chicot, Evangeline, and Jasper aquifers in the Houston‐Galveston region, Texas. This dataset shows current‐year (2018) groundwater‐level altitudes for each aquifer, 5‐year (2013‐18) groundwater‐level changes for each aquifer, long‐term (1990‐2018 and 1977‐2018) groundwater‐level changes for the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers, and long‐term (2000‐2018) groundwater‐level change for the Jasper aquifer. The groundwater‐level measurements...
More than 11,500 well records, such as geophysical logs, drilling descriptions, and published hydrogeologic framework information, were evaluated to help characterize the framework of hydrogeologic units in and near Gaines, Terry, and Yoakum Counties, Texas. Additional geophysical data were collected to improve the spatial coverage across the study area and to reduce uncertainty with regard to hydrogeologic unit extents. The evaluation of existing data plus the collection of new geophysical data provided that basis for developoing a refined understanding of how the saturated thickness of the Ogallala and Edwards-Trinity aquifers vary throughout the study area.
Temporal patterns in glyphosate and atrazine concentrations were measured weekly by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) during the 2013 growing season in 100 small streams in the Midwestern United States. Concentrations also were measured every 2 days at a subset of 8 of the sites, all located in Missouri. Glyphosate was detected more frequently in urban streams than in agricultural streams, and at concentrations similar to those in streams with high agricultural land use in the watershed. In contrast, atrazine was detected more frequently and at higher concentrations in agricultural streams than in urban streams. This data release provides watershed characteristics and 2013 glyphosate and atrazine compound concentrations...

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, constructed a finite-difference numerical groundwater-flow model of the Salt Fork Red River aquifer using MODFLOW with the Newton formulation solver (MODFLOW-NWT). The 1973 Oklahoma Water Law requires the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to conduct hydrologic investigations of the State’s aquifers to support a determination of the maximum annual yield (MAY) for each groundwater basin. The MAY is defined as the amount of fresh groundwater that can be withdrawn annually while ensuring a minimum 20-year life of the groundwater basin. For alluvium and terrace aquifers, the groundwater-basin-life requirement is satisfied if, after 20 years...
