This data release supports the study by Sexstone and others (2019) and contains simulation output from a hydrological modeling experiment using a specific calibration of the conterminous United States (CONUS) application of the Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) (Hay, 2019) as implemented in the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) infrastructure (Regan and others, 2018). The by hydrologic response unit (byHRU) calibrated, baseline version of the NHM-PRMS (Hay, 2019) was used to evaluate the sensitivity of simulated runoff to the representation of snow depletion curves (SDCs) within the NHM-PRMS across the CONUS. The model experiment consisted of seven NHM-PRMS model simulations using the calibrated NHM-PRMS...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Air Force Civil Engineering Center, created a numerical groundwater-flow model for the Fountain Creek alluvial aquifer using the finite-difference MODFLOW code with the Newton formulation solver. This numerical groundwater-flow model simulates water-budget components, groundwater-flow directions, and groundwater-flow paths of the Fountain Creek alluvial aquifer. The numerical model was spatially discretized into a single layer with 291 rows and 254 columns of 200 by 200 feet size, and a total of 17,610 active cell. The numerical model was temporally discretized into 1 initial steady-state stress period representing the average conditions of the 240 monthly...

This dataset includes benthic algae community composition data in the Colorado River near Cameo, Colorado, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09095500, from 2022 to 2023, and from three sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, in 2022. Taxonomic classification of algae species is not known well in theses rivers, and this study was conducted to record different algae species present in each river system. Benthic algae were typically identified as genus or species, and biomass and biovolume were provided for taxa. The U.S. Geological Survey completed data collection in upper White River Basin in cooperation with the White River Conservation District, and the Colorado River data collection was funded...

Invertebrate, fish, and habitat data were collected as part of a cooperative project that began in 2002 between the U.S. Geological Survey, Colorado Springs Utilities, and Colorado Springs Engineering. Other entities have contributed to the project over the years including Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Fish samples were collected and analyzed at 12 sites in the Fountain Creek Basin, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected, and sampling methods used during each visit vary. The fish data were collected between 2003 and 2023 and is intended to be updated annually as new data are collected and available. Users...

This dataset consists of altitude values representing the top surface (in feet) of well-consolidated bedrock at the base of the shallow groundwater system in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Bedrock-altitude values were computed as the difference between land-surface altitude and the thickness of regolith sediments represented by dataset rglth. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
Changes in water corrosivity from 84 river sites were investigated using long-term data sets. Corrosive waters, often having elevated chloride (Cl) concentrations, can lead to metal leaching and promote corrosion in water distribution systems. Two different indices, the Chloride-Sulfate Mass Ratio (CSMR) and the Larson Ratio (LR), are commonly used to indicate the potential to promote corrosion in water distribution systems, with high values indicating an increase in the potential to promote corrosion. Though changes in treatment approaches at drinking water facilities are known to affect the corrosion indices, there is little information regarding how changes in the ionic composition of source waters may affect...

Streamflow and basin-characteristic data are needed for a variety of scientific applications including estimation of flow in ungaged basins and hydro-ecological classification of rivers. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation and the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SRLCC), selected a subset of streamgages across the SRLCC domain that could be used for future modeling efforts. A number of basin characteristics were calculated for the drainage basin delineated at each streamgage. Spatial features (gages, drainage basins) and their related attributes are contained within a geodatabase (SRLCC_Hydro.gdb). The extent of the historical peak flow information...
