This data release supports interpretations of field-observed root distributions within a shallow landslide headscarp (CB1) located below Mettman Ridge within the Oregon Coast Range, approximately 15 km northeast of Coos Bay, Oregon, USA. (Schmidt_2021_CB1_topo_far.png and Schmidt_2021_CB1_topo_close.png). Root species, diameter (greater than or equal to 1 mm), general orientation relative to the slide scarp, and depth below ground surface were characterized immediately following landsliding in response to large-magnitude precipitation in November 1996 which triggered thousands of landslides within the area (Montgomery and others, 2009). This dataset comprises a vector shapefile of the Puerto Rico geologic map from Bawiec et al. (1999), clipped to study areas in the Lares, Utuado, and Naranjito municipalities, with a modified basal contact of the Tertiary Lares Limestone (Tla) re-mapped using a lidar-derived digital elevation model (DEM) (USGS, 2018). The limestone unit of interest forms a prominent break in slope with the underlying geologic units, and this break in slope was mapped as the Tla basal contact. Only the southern contact of the Tla unit was modified. The data herein are geochemical (from X-Ray fluorescence spectrometry), grain size (percent clay, silt, sand), lithological (loss on ignition data), bathymetric, reconstructed IVT, and radioactive isotopes (14-C, 210-Pb, 226-Ra, and 137-Cs). These data were collected from sediments from Leonard Lake, Mendocino County, California, USA starting in 2014. Together, these data provide evidence for a record of extreme precipitation going back three millennia, showing regional pluvial and drought cycles.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has collected or incorporated over 20,000 physical property measurements into an ASCII database. These data are primarily from the western U.S. and Alaska and are dominated by granitic rock samples from the Sierra Nevada (compiled by Sikora and others, 1991), but also include a range of other commonly found rocks types. The data include density, magnetic susceptibility, and in some cases, remanent magnetic properties. Density data for more recently collected samples include grain, dry-bulk, and saturated-bulk density measurements. This dataset supports a published study on the effects of permafrost thaw on greenhouse gas fluxes and microbial activities at the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX), part of the Bonanza Creek LTER, in interior Alaska. The dataset includes autochamber CO2 and CH4 fluxes, net ecosystem exchange, ecosystem respiration, soil temperatures, climate data, microbial qPCR data, soil physical chemistry, soil extract chemistry, and rates of microbial activities, both from lab incubations, and rates derived from an isotope based process model.

This dataset consists of 16 repeated magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected on Mount Tongariro, New Zealand, before (2009) and after (2013) the 2012 eruption. The data were collected in same locations with similiar instruments. Preeruption and posteruption electromagnetic magnetotelluric measurements determine variation in subsurface electrical properties resulting from changes in magmatic system associated with the 2012 eruptive cycle.

A detailed airborne gravity gradiometry, magnetic, and radiometric survey of Mountain Pass, California was flown by CGG Canada Services Ltd. (CGG). The high-resolution helicopter survey was flown at a flight-line spacing of 100 and 200 m, a flight-line azimuth of 70 degrees, a nominal flight-line elevation above ground of 70 m, and consists of about 1,814 line-kilometers. Tie lines were spaced at a 1-km interval with a flight-line azimuth of 160 degrees. This data set consists of 59 wideband magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in July and August of 2020 as part of a 1-year project funded by the Energy Resources Program of the U.S. Geological Survey to demonstrate full crustal control on geothermal systems in the Great Basin. Each station had 5 components, 3 orthogonal magnetic induction coils and 2 horizontal orthogonal electric dipoles. This shapefile contains total‐field marine magnetic data from eleven cruises of the USCGS ship Pioneer (OSS‐31) and one cruise from the USS Rehoboth (AGS‐50) in deep water off the west coast of the United States and southern British Columbia in 1955 and 1956. Magnetic anomalies are calculated with the latest definitive geomagnetic reference field (DGRF) included in the 12th Generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field model (Thébault and others, 2015). The marine magnetic data from these cruises were recovered from backup tapes that archived the work of Skaer and Hey in the late 1980s (Skaer, 1989). This dataset includes pdf representations of drill core logs showing associated drill core information, a pdf of the explanation for the lithology and structure sections of the logs, a shapefile of the locations of the drill holes, and sixteen individual .csv files of tabular data that was compiled from hand written drill core logs. The drill core is from the Stillwater Complex, Montana and was drilled from 1969 to 1977. The core was logged from 1979 to 1993. The data in the pdf images and .csv files includes lithologic, structure, core recovery, grain size, chromite, sulfide, copper, and nickel mineralization information. The high-resolution helicopter survey was flown at a flightline spacing of 100 and 200 m, a flightline azimuthal direction of 70 degrees, a nominal flightline elevation above ground of 70 m, and consists of about 1,814 line-kilometers. Tie lines were spaced at a 1-km interval with a flight-line azimuthal direction of 160 degrees. A Scintrex CS-3 cesium magnetometer was used throughout the airborne survey as well as for the ground base station survey. Data are presented as residual magnetic intensity (RMI) in nanoteslas (nT).

During the summers of 2017 and 2020, our team collected gravity, ground magnetic (ATV and hiked traverses), paleomagnetic and rock property (density and susceptibility) data on the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) in northeast Oregon to aid in characterizing subsurface stratigraphy using 2D and 3D modeling methods. This data was integrated with conductance surfaces from a 3D magnetotelluic model and regional stress data to generate geothermal resource favorability maps to inform future exploration and drilling efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

This spatial database "usgs_Global_REE.gdb" was created for use in a geographic information system (GIS) to support research on global rare earth deposits and occurrences by the U.S. Geological Survey. This inventory documents the geologic occurrence of rare earths, including mineralogy, type of deposit or occurrence, host rocks and alteration, and any quantitative data related to size and grade from publicly available data. Rare earths, as used in this report, includes the chemically similar lanthanide group of elements, as well as yttrium.
