Ecological assessment data from the USGS National Water-Quality Assessment Program and the USEPA National River and Stream Assessment were reviewed and records were retained from sampling sites co-located with active USGS stream gages. A limited amount of ancillary data, including location, physical watershed features, and basic water chemistry data for each site were also retained.

Digital flood-inundation maps for a 7.5-mile reach of the White River at Noblesville, Indiana, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Transportation. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Science website at https://water.usgs.gov/osw/flood_inundation/, depict estimates of the areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to selected water levels (stages) at the White River at Noblesville, Ind., streamgage (USGS station number 03349000). Real-time stages at this streamgage may be obtained from the USGS National Water Information System at https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis or the National Weather Service...

Above- and belowground production in coastal wetlands are important contributors to carbon accumulation and ecosystem sustainability. As sea level rises, we can expect shifts to more salt-tolerant communities, which may alter these ecosystem functions and services. Although the direct influence of salinity on species-level primary production has been documented, we lack an understanding of the landscape-level response of coastal wetlands to increasing salinity. What are the indirect effects of sea-level rise, i.e. how does primary production vary across a landscape gradient of increasing salinity that incorporates changes in wetland type? We measured above- and belowground production in four wetland types that span...

Invasive lionfish have been widely recorded throughout the western Atlantic on both shallow and mesophotic reefs, where they have been linked to declines in reef health. In this study we report the first lionfish observations from the deep sea (>200 m) in Bermuda and Roatan, Honduras, with lionfish observed to a maximum depth of 304 m off the Bermuda platform, and 250 m off West End, Roatan. Placed in the context of other deeper lionfish observations and records, our results imply that lionfish may be found more widely in the 200-300 m depth range of the upper bathyal zone across the western Atlantic, but currently are severely underreported. We highlight the need for considering deep-sea lionfish populations in...

This dataset supports the inclusion of Anodontoides radiatus in the genus Strophitus, introducing the binomial Strophitus radiatus. These data also provide strong support for paraphyly in Strophitus and advocate the resurrection of the genus Pseudodontoides to represent the binomials Pseudodontoides connasaugaensis and Pseudodontoides subvexus.

Wastes from the world’s largest manufacturer of DDT were released into the Los Angeles County municipal sewer system from 1947 to 1971. Following primary treatment, the effluent was discharged from a submarine outfall system whereupon a portion of the DDT and associated degradation products were deposited in sediments of the Palos Verdes Shelf (PVS). Parent DDT is present only in trace amounts in the sediments today, the vast majority having been transformed to DDE shortly following deposition. Previously believed to be inert, DDE is slowly being converted to DDMU and DDMU to DDNU via microbially-mediated reductive dechlorination (RDC). Kinetic and compositional data suggest that this process began sometime in the...

Coastal wetlands store more carbon than most ecosystems globally. However, little is known about the mechanisms that control the loss of organic matter in coastal wetlands at the landscape scale, and how sea-level rise will impact this important ecological function.

The success of Gulf Coast restoration efforts hinge on partners sharing a common vision for conservation framed by explicit biological objectives for specific conservation targets. However, specific and explicit biological objectives that quantify what it means to actually share a common vision remain undefined. Therefore, this project's goal is to develop explicit biological objectives for a common suite of conservation targets representative of sustainable Gulf habitats across the four Gulf Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs)(i.e., Gulf Coast Prairie, Gulf Coastal Plains & Ozarks, Peninsular Florida, and South Atlantic) and, for a subset of those species, to use Bayesian Network models to link these biological...

7Q10 records and basin characteristics for 224 basins in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama (2015)
This data release provides the data and R scripts used for the 2018 publication titled "Improving predictions of hydrological low-flow indices in ungaged basins using machine learning", Environmental Modeling and Software, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.envsoft.2017.12.021.. There are two .csv files and 14 R-scripts included below. The lowflow_sc_ga_al_gagesII_2015.csv datafile contains the annual minimum seven-day mean streamflow with an annual exceedance probability of 90% (7Q10) for 224 basins in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. The datafile also contains 231 basin characteristics from the Gages II dataset (https://water.usgs.gov/lookup/getspatial?gagesII_Sept2011). The "all_preds.csv" file contains the leave-one-out...

Time series electromagnetic induction-log (TSEMIL) datasets are collected from PVC cased or uncased monitoring wells to evaluate changes in water conductivity over time. TSEMIL datasets consist of a series of individual electromagnetic induction logs collected at a frequency of months or years that have been compiled into a dataset by eliminating small uniform offsets in bulk conductivity between logs likely caused by minor variations in calibration. At depths where water conductivity is not changing through time, each log is typically within about ±15 mS/m of the median of the dataset at any given depth, which is within the stated repeatability specifications of the probe (Mount Sopris Instrument Co., Inc., 2002)....

This dataset includes the results of a computer automated anuran vocalization recognition analysis of audio recordings made at Picayune Strand State Forest in 2011 and 2012. The audio files were scanned for 11 species of frogs and toads using the commercially available software program Song Scope (ver. 4.1.3). All detections by the software are listed here along with a "result" field which indicates whether or not the computer detection was a true positive or a false positive.

This dataset contains four comma-delimited files collected to evaluate the utility of GPS biologging tags for studying the spatial ecology of large constricting snakes. The first file contains the dates that five Burmese pythons were deployed for tracking in Everglades National Park, FL. The second file contains the data from each of those five python GPS tags with all of the attempted GPS fixes and their result (success or fail). The third file contains deployment dates and true locations for seven GPS test-platforms deployed in Everglades National Park to assess the effect of habitat on fix success as well as accuracy and precision of the tags in situ. The final file contains the data from each of those seven...
