In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey developed a StreamStats web application (https://water.usgs.gov/osw/streamstats/) that provides analytical tools useful for water-resources planning and management (Ries and others, 2017). This data set presents the lidar-derived flow direction, flow accumulation, streamline, and hydro-enforced digital elevation model raster data used for analysis in StreamStats. Rasters are included for each of the following hydrologic unit codes (HUCs): 03040101, 03040102, 03040103, 03040104, 03040105, 03040201, 03040202, 03040203, 03040204, 03040205, 03040206, 03040207, 03040208, 03050101, 03050102, 03050103, 03050104, 03050105, 03050106,...

These data sets were created in support of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) for the Delaware River Basin pilot study (Eberts, Wagner, and Woodside, 2019). The NGWOS utilizes real-time data, improved computational capabilities, and new technologies such as the rapid deployment of unmanned aerial vehicle's (UAV) and autonomous underwater vehicle's (AUV) to provide information on water quantity and quality, in more locations, quickly and efficiently (Eberts, Wagner, and Woodside, 2019). Combined with advanced modeling applications, the NGWOS will be an important tool for water-resource managers and emergency management. Water-quality and bathymetric data were measured...

A digital dataset of the geomorphology of the Lower Mississippi River Valley in Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Mississippi was developed from Roger T. Saucier’s “Geomorphology and Quaternary Geologic History of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Volumes I and II” (1994) as part of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) Regional Water Availability Study. The maps included in the 1994 reports provide a comprehensive overview of the previously misunderstood alluvial valley geology and characterize twenty-nine Pleistocene and Holocene alluvial deposits, such as point bars, abandoned channels, backswamps, and natural levees. Each map was georeferenced to North American Datum 1983 and projected to USA...

The U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, implemented a South Carolina StreamStats application in 2018. This shapefile dataset contains vector lines representing streams, rivers, and ditches that were used in preparing the underlying data for the South Carolina StreamStats application. Data were compiled from multiple sources, but principally represent lidar-derived linework from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina Lidar Consortium. The South Carolina hydrography lines were created from elevation rasters that ranged from 4 to 10 ft resolution, to produce a product of approximately 1:6,000-scale....

Water-quality data for the Bushy Park Reservoir near Goose Creek, South Carolina, from September 2013 to May 2015. Data includes the chemical, physical, and biological properties that influence (1) geosmin and 2-methyisobornel (MIB) occurrence in this source-water reservoir, (2) cyanobacterial biovolumes, and (3) geosmin-producing and toxin-producing genera of cyanobacteria. This data release supports the following publication: Conrads, P.A., Journey, C.A., Petkewich, M.D., Lanier, T.H., and Clark, J.M., 2018, Characterization of water quality in Bushy Park Reservoir, South Carolina, 2013–15: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2018–5010, 175 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20185010.

Streamflow data and statistics are vitally important for proper protection and management of both the water quality and water quantity of Alabama streams. Such data and statistics are available at U.S. Geological Survey streamflow-gaging stations, also referred to as streamgages or stations, but are often needed at ungaged stream locations. To address this need, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with numerous Alabama State agencies and organizations, developed regional regression equations for estimating selected low-flow frequency statistics and mean annual flow for ungaged locations in Alabama that are not substantially affected by tides, regulation, diversions, or other anthropogenic influences. This...

The Indian River Lagoon (IRL) extends for 160 miles along Florida's east coast and is a complex system of three estuaries - Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River Lagoon, and Indian River Lagoon. Two concurrent phytoplankton blooms occurred in the IRL in 2011 that had detrimental ecological effects on the estuarine system. St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) is participating in a multi-agency effort to better characterize and understand the factors effecting algal dynamics of the IRL. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) worked in cooperation with the SJRWMD to study the spatial variability of water-quality conditions, especially conditions related to potential algal blooms, between sampling sites and the spatial...

Spatial reconnaissance of fluvial microcystins (MC) concentrations and select water-quality parameters, including nutrients and periphyton biomass, in 75 wadeable streams in the Piedmont region of the southeastern USA during 2014. Data set includes only those data specifically discussed in the associated journal article: Loftin, K.A., Clark, J.M., Journey, C.A., Kolpin, D.W., Van Metre, P.C., and Bradley, P.M., 2016, Spatial and temporal variation in microcystins occurrence in wadeable streams in the southeastern USA: Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry, http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/etc.3391.

The Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP) began in January 2015 with the purpose of deepening the Savannah Harbor federal shipping channel to allow access to larger shipping vessels (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2018a). There are various features and mitigation efforts to the SHEP, one of which is the installation of a dissolved-oxygen (DO) injection system at two locations along the Savannah River to maintain pre-SHEP DO levels in the harbor (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2018b). The injection systems are installed upstream near Georgia Power Plant McIntosh in Effingham County, Georgia and downstream near Hutchinson Island, Chatham County, Georgia. Designed to maintain DO levels in the harbor as they were before...

The South Atlantic Water Science Center collects high-quality hydrologic data and conducts unbiased, scientifically sound research on Georgia's, North Carolina's, and South Carolina's water resources. We meet the needs of those who use our information—from the distribution, availability, and quality of water resources to topic-oriented research to address current hydrological issues.

The Bushy Park Reservoir is a relatively shallow impoundment in a semi-tropical climate and is the principal water supply for the 400,000 people of the City of Charleston and the surrounding areas including the industries in the Bushy Park Industrial Complex. Although there is an adequate supply of freshwater in the reservoir, there are taste-and-odor water-quality concerns. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Charleston Water System, monitored the hydrology and water-quality conditions in the Bushy Park Reservoir immediately before, during, and after a unique shutdown period when the average daily 800-cubic-feet-per-second withdrawals by South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCE+G) Williams Station...
