Upper Klamath Lake (UKL) is the source of the Klamath River that flows through southern Oregon and northern California. The UKL Basin provides water for 81,000+ ha (200,000+ acres) of irrigation on the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Klamath Project located downstream of the UKL Basin. Irrigated agriculture also occurs along the tributaries to UKL. During 2013–2016, water rights calls resulted in various levels of curtailment of irrigation diversions from the tributaries to UKL. However, information on the extent of curtailment, how much irrigation water was saved, and its impact on the UKL is unknown. In this study, we combined Landsat-based actual evapotranspiration (ETa) data obtained from the Operational Simplified...

The supplemental data presented here contains raster data in .tif format of the empirically estimated mean annual (1987-2015) net evapotranspiration (ETnet) for the Harney Basin Groundwater Evapotranspiration Area. The final mean annual ETnet estimate for the Harney Basin was determined using both empirical and physics-based methods. The final ETnet estimate was combined with additional data to estimate groundwater discharge through evapotranspiration (ET) in the Harney Basin. See Garcia and others (2022) for a detailed description of how these data were estimated and evaluated.

The associated geotiff rasters represents the total actual evapotranspiration (ETa) from June through September for the years 2004, 2006, 2008-2010, and 2013-2016 for the entire Klamath Basin in southern Oregon. Additionally, the June-September average (mean) ETa for the "base years" of 2004, 2006, 2008-2010 and ETa Anomaly (deviation from the base years average mean) for each year between 2013-2016 is provided. Text files of SSEBop daily actual ET along with actual ET from Ameriflux eddy co-variance flux tower sites...
This dataset presents data and analysis from a carbonate-rock aquifer test, conducted near Long Canyon, Nevada in 2016 by Newmont Mining Corporation. Data collected during the test include tabular pumping, subsurface loss from spring supplementation and aquifer-test discharge (ditch discharge), water-levels, and weather data. Water-level, pumping, and spring data were collected and furnished by Newmont Mining Corporation. The furnished data were input into water-level models to estimate monitoring-site drawdown or rise. Water-level models were created using SeriesSEE (Halford and others, 2012), an Excel Add-in. Water-level model input files, archived water-level models, the Excel Add-in, hydrographs, and estimates...
This dataset contains manually developed 5-, 10-, and 500-ft contours for the Harney Basin, Oregon aquifer system shallow and deep potentiometric-surface maps. The potentiometric-surfaces show altitude at the water-table surface (shallow) and at which the water level would have risen in tightly-cased wells deeper than 100 ft (deep) and generally represents synoptic conditions during February–March of 2018. The water-table map was developed using groundwater-level measurements from shallow wells (generally less than 100 ft deep in the lowlands) and the altitudes of springs and gaining stream reaches and constrained by the altitude of the land surface. The deeper potentiometric-surface map was developed using measurements...

The supplemental data presented here contain tabular data (in .csv format) including measured and estimated daily and water-year (1982–2016) streamflow for selected watersheds and estimated springflow at Page Springs in Harney Basin. Daily streamflow data are a composite of measured streamflow and extended streamflow records from short-term streamgages in gaged watersheds. Short-term or discontinuous records in gaged watersheds were extended to the period 1982–2016 using the Kendal-Thiel Robust Line (KTRL) method (Helsel and Hirsch, 2020) and ordinary-least squares (OLS) linear regression. Springflow estimates were provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The supplemental data presented here contain shapefiles of the hydrographic area, regions, groundwater evapotranspiration areas, and select watersheds in Harney Basin used in the hydrologic budget of the Harney Basin groundwater system, 1982-2016 report.
This data set contains projected future climate and hydrology anomalies obtained from Climate Toolbox (intermediate- and high-emissions scenarios, RCP 4.5 and 8.5, respectively) (Abatzoglou and Brown, 2012; Mote and others, 2014; Mote and others, 2017; Hegewisch and others, 2020) and summarized at the 8-digit hydrologic unit level. Climate anomalies include annual precipitation and air temperature and hydrology anomalies include April 1st snow-water equivalent (SWE) and annual soil moisture, runoff, and actual evapotranspiration (ET). Anomalies represent percent change during 2010-2039, 2040–2069, and 2070–2099 relative to the historical 1971–2000 mean. Climate projections were determined using statistically downscaled...

This data release presents tabular data used and analytical water-level modeling files generated as part of a U.S. Geological Survey study, done in cooperation with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, to evaluate water-level change from a multiple-well aquifer test in well 422 on the Umatilla Indian Reservation near Mission, Oregon. Water-level, pumping, and barometric-pressure data collected during February 1, 2016–April 18, 2016 were used within the accompanying water-level modeling files to estimate drawdown in observation and background wells from the aquifer test. Water-level models were created within Excel spreadsheets using an Excel Add-in called SeriesSEE (Halford and others, 2012)....

The supplemental data presented here contain a macro-driven Microsoft Excel workbook (Office 365 format) that was developed to simultaneously balance streamflow with precipitation distributions in the Harney Basin for streamgaged and ungaged upland watersheds and other upland areas. The workbook allows for as many as five precipitation ranges to be manually specified. Precipitation for the area within each range is summed by watershed or ungaged area and multiplied by a fitted coefficient to estimate precipitation-derived streamflow.

This model archive makes available the calibrated Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model used to simulate upland recharge from infiltration of precipitation and snowmelt in the Harney Basin, Oregon, 1982-2016. The model was calibrated using annual values of runoff, evapotranspiration, and baseflow for eight watersheds in the basin. The Harney Basin SWB model was used to create output at the scale of 1-kilometer grid cells. The simulations were used to create daily grids of potential recharge. The calibrated SWB model and its use is described in the associated U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2021–5128 (Garcia and others, 2022; https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20215128). The directory structure of the model...
