HySpex by NEO (HySpex) VNIR-1800 and SWIR-384 imaging spectrometer radiance data were acquired on September 14, 2017 at the Cresson Pit of the Cripple Creek & Victor mine in Cripple Creek, Colorado. ASD FieldSpecⓇ NG data were collected on September 13 and 14, 2017 at two calibration sites within the Cresson Pit imaged with the HySpex imaging spectrometers. The HySpex VNIR-1800 imaging spectrometer is a push broom type instrument that utilizes 1800 pixels to collect 186 channels of spectral data in the region of 400 to 1000 nanometers (nm). Mineral predominance data were a derivative product from the Corescan© reflectance data. Corescan Hyperspectral Core Imager Mark III (HCI-III) system data were acquired for hand samples, and subsequent billets made from the hand samples, collected during the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 2014, 2015, and 2016 field seasons in the Nabesna area of the eastern Alaska Range. Measurements of reference materials were made on the Corescan© HCI-III to evaluate the supplied channel wavelength positions and bandpass values. Wavelength position and bandpass of channels in a spectrometer, referred to as full-width half max (FWHM) in the contractor's documentation (Corescan_Product_MetaData_v3.pdf), are two fundamental spectral characteristics that need to be known in order to spectrally identify minerals by comparison to a spectral library, like the Material Identification and Characterization Algorithm (MICA) analysis used to generate the mineral predominance maps. This data release contains whole-rock major, minor, and trace element geochemical data for carbonatite samples from the Mountain Pass rare earth element (REE) deposit located in southeastern California. The Mountain Pass deposit is the largest REE deposit in the United States and in 2021, produced 43,000 metric tons (expressed as rare-earth-oxide equivalent; U.S. Geological Survey, 2022). Samples include a suite of outcrop samples (2018) and a suite of composite samples (2019). Data are reported in comma-separated values (CSV) files. All column headings and abbreviations are explained in the metadata.
