Development of a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) of the pre-Glen Canyon Dam topography in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah and Arizona was initiated to assist the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in its Lake Powell coring program in the fall of 2018 (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/ut-water/science/lake-powell-coring). Topographic surveys of Glen Canyon were commissioned by the Bureau of Reclamation during the planning stages for Lake Powell as part of the Colorado River Storage Project (S. 500, 1956). The Colorado River arm was surveyed by Alster and Associates, Inc. in 1958 and 1959 at a contour interval of 10-feet from the river surface at the future dam site through where the 3,750-foot contour...

The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation and Health are concerned about groundwater contamination in the carbonate-bedrock aquifers with the potential to host karst features throughout New York State, especially relating to the unintended introduction of chemical or agricultural contamination into these aquifers. USGS Scientific Investigations Report, SIR 2020-5030 (Kappel and others, 2020), provides local and State regulators and the public the information needed to determine the extent of carbonate bedrock in New York, the associated environmental impacts of karst, and the means to protect New York’s karst water resources. The four geodatabases presented in this data release were compiled...

Background: The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) and Health (NYS DOH) are concerned about groundwater contamination in the carbonate-bedrock aquifers in New York, especially relating to the unintended introduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and liquid manure to these aquifers. These carbonate rocks form extensive aquifers that transmit, and can yield, water from solution-enlarged fractures, bedding planes, and other openings (Olcott, 1995). Groundwater contamination from liquid manure application (fecal coliform bacteria [E. coli] and nitrate) has been on the increase over the past decade as these incidents have been reported to the NYS DEC. Nitrate is highly water-soluble...

This dataset provides a modified version of the previously published Lake Powell topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM; Poppenga and others, 2020). The original TBDEM is comprised of four source datasets: (1) a 2017 1-meter multibeam bathymetric survey; (2) a 2018 topographic light detection and ranging (lidar) derived digital elevation model (DEM); (3) a historical topographic DEM that was interpolated from contours maps created in 1947 and 1959; and (4) interpolated topography where gaps existed in the bathymetric and lidar data or where historical data were not suitable (Poppenga and others, 2020). For this data release, two corrections were made to the TBDEM to address errors associated with the historic...
