These tabular data sets represent daily climate metrics processed from 4 kilometer GridMET data (Abatzoglou, 2013) for the period of record 1980 through 2020 and compiled for three spatial components: select United States Geological Survey stream gage basins (Staub and Wieczorek, 2023), 2) individual reach flowline catchments of the Upper and Lower Colorado (ucol) portions of the Geospatial Fabric for the National Hydrologic Model, version 1.1 (nhgfv11, Bock and others, 2020 ), and 3) the upstream watersheds of each individual nhgfv11 flowline catchments. Flowline reach catchment information characterizes data at the local scale using the python tool set called gdptools (McDonald, 2021). Reach catchments accumulated...

These tabular data sets represent the average daily soil moisture water content (kg/m^2) for four different soil layers processed from North American Land Data Assimilation System (NLDAS-2) data (Xia and others, 2012) for the period of record 1980 through 2020 and compiled for three spatial components: 1) select United States Geological Survey stream gage basins (Staub and Wieczorek, 2023), 2) individual reach flowline catchments of the Upper Colorado (ucol) portion of the Geospatial Fabric for the National Hydrologic Model, version 1.1 (nhgfv11, Bock and others, 2020 ), and 3) the upstream watersheds of each individual nhgfv11 flowline catchments. Flowline reach catchment information characterizes data at the local...

This metadata record describes a series of data sets of natural, climatic, and anthropogenic landscape features processed as model inputs for the Data-Driven Drought Prediction Project of the Water Resources Mission Area Drought Program. These data are linked to two different spatial units: the National Hydrologic Geospatial Fabric version 1.1 (nhgfv1.1) including their associated individual catchments as well as their upstream watersheds for the Upper and Lower portions of the Colorado River Basin (Bock and others, 2020) and select U.S. Geological Survey streamgage basins for the conterminous United States ( Wieczorek and Staub, 2023). Child items are arranged by data themes (GRIDMET, NLDAS-2, SWE, see table below...
This dataset includes inputs and results for parameterizing the USGS Thornthwaite Monthly Water Balance Model (MWBM) to simulate annual stream permanence on National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) stream reaches. Also included are results from sensitivity analysis of MWBM parameters to final stream permanence classification (permanent or nonpermanent). The dataset includes files that link PRISM climate grids to NHD catchments and flowlines. Data tables describe the sensitivity of MWBM stream permanence classifications to each of the altered MWBM parameters. Suitable MWBM parameter sets, which resulted in accuracy of at least 65% when compared to observed surface water conditions, for modeling stream permanence are presented...

This data release presents two datasets including waterbodies (reservoirs, lakes, ponds, wetlands, etc.) and flowlines (stream reaches) from the high-resolution National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus HR) that are potentially observable from Landsat images for the United States (excluding Alaska). To determine where National Hydrography Dataset Plus high resolution (NHDPlus HR; USGS 2019) features intersect locations with observed water, a workflow was developed using the Global Surface Water Extent dataset (GSWE; Pekel et al. 2016) to specify where water was observed by Landsat from 1984 to 2019. The workflow determines where the extent of NHDPlus HR water features (waterbodies and areas) overlaps the maximum...

National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) stream permanence classifications (SPC; perennial, intermittent, and ephemeral) are widely used for data visualization and applied science, and have implications for resource policy and management. NHD SPC were assigned using a combination of topographic field surveys and interviews with local residents. However, previous studies indicate that non‐NHD, in situ streamflow observations (NNO) frequently disagree with NHD SPC. We hypothesized that differences in annual climate conditions between map creation years and the years NNO were collected contributed to disagreement between NNO and NHD SPC. We compared NHD SPC to 10,055 NNO (classified as “wet” or “dry”) collected in the Pacific...

This dataset represents 9,097 basin boundaries (rdews_gages.shp) of select U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) active and historical stream gages derived from the published datasets of stream gage basins (Wieczorek, 2006), GAGESII (Falcone, 2011), and delineated from digital elevation models found in the NHDPlus version 1 data suite (NHDPlus, 2006). These basins were created to assist in spatial processing of model inputs for the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Data-Driven Drought Prediction Project of the Drought Science Program within the Water Resources Mission Area's Water Resource Availability Program.
This data release presents two calibration datasets that relate aquatic reflectance derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery with algal bloom conditions in the Brownlee Reservoir on the Idaho Oregon border. These datasets were developed to evaluate remote sensing methods for identifying algal blooms in Brownlee Reservoir like those from July 2022 that are illustrated in field photo (left) and satellite imagery (right) in “Picture1.png”. The first calibration dataset includes satellite-based spectra paired with chlorophyll-a concentrations in micrograms per liter analyzed by the Bureau of Reclamation Soil and Water Laboratory with standard method 10200 H.2 on water samples collected within 2 m of the surface by...

These tabular data sets represent daily climate metrics processed from 4 kilometer snow water equivalent (SWE) raster data in millimeters (Broxton and others, 2019) for the period of record 10-01-1981 through 09-30-2020 and compiled for three spatial components: select United States Geological Survey stream gage basins (Staub and Wieczorek, 2023), 2) individual reach flowline catchments of the Upper and Lower Colorado (ucol) portions of the Geospatial Fabric for the National Hydrologic Model, version 1.1 (nhgfv11, Bock and others, 2020 ), and 3) the upstream watersheds of each individual nhgfv11 flowline catchments. This dataset adds attributes describing the self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) during the observation year of wet/dry streamflow observations collected in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Streamflow observation locations are linked to the nearest National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution (NHD-HR) stream segment to obtain stream order and stream permanence (perennial/non-perennial) from NHD-HR. Additionally, the PDSI and precipitation percentile for 7.5 minute quadrangle map extents, within the extent of the conterminous United States (https://carto.nationalmap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/map_indices/MapServer), during the map survey year are presented. NHD perennial/non-perennial classifications derive...
