Ground-based discrete snowpack measurements were collected during winter field campaigns starting in 2020. These data were collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) Upper Colorado River Basin project focusing on the relation between snow dynamics and water resources. This data release consists of three child items. Each child item contains snow depth, snow density, snow temperature, or snow water equivalent values measured discretely in the field. The data are provided in comma separated value (CSV) files.

Invertebrate, fish, and habitat data were collected as part of a cooperative project that began in 2002 between the U.S. Geological Survey, Colorado Springs Utilities, and Colorado Springs Engineering. Other entities have contributed to the project over the years including Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Habitat samples were collected and analyzed at 27 sites – 25 in the Fountain Creek Basin as well as two sites on the Arkansas River, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected, and sampling methods used during each visit vary. The habitat data were collected between 2002 and 2023 and is intended to be updated annually...

Fish samples were collected and analyzed at 12 sites in the Fountain Creek Basin, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected, and sampling methods used during each visit vary. The fish data were collected between 2003 and 2023 and is intended to be updated annually as new data are collected and available. Users...
This data release includes output data from the transit-loss accounting program for the Fountain and Monument Creek watersheds in El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The output data distinguish between native and reusable streamflow. Native streamflow is that which originates naturally within the watershed. Reusable streamflow originates as water imported from outside the watershed, water derived from pumping of certain groundwaters, or as other water with rights that allow it to be reused. The program accounts for reusable water throughout the watershed, as well as the total inflow and outflow of water to each subreach division within the watershed. The accounting program is based upon stream-aquifer models...
Data were primarily collected from up to 35 sites – 33 sites within the Fountain Creek Basin but also from two sites on the Arkansas River. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected, and sampling methods used during each visit vary. Data were collected between 2002 and 2023 and is intended to be updated annually as new data are collected and available....

This data release consists of daily mean streamflow, daily mean suspended sediment concentration (SSC), and daily mean suspended sediment load (SSL) data for selected U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage sites within the Fountain Creek watershed, separated by water year. Each file also includes USGS approval levels and any associated qualifiers that were applied to the values. The daily mean SSC and daily mean SSL were calculated using the program, Graphical Constituent Loading Analysis System (GCLAS) , and are publicly available in the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database. Methods used in GCLAS to calculate daily mean SSC and SSL will not be discussed in this data release (see: User's manual...
Discrete snow depth data were collected during multiple winter campaigns during 2020–22. These data were collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) Upper Colorado River Basin project focusing on the relation of snow dynamics and water resources. Snow depth was measured using either an avalanche probe and handheld global positioning system (GPS) unit or a snow depth probe with attached Juniper Systems Geode GPS receiver and a Mesa tablet. These data are released in a comma separated value file.

Other entities have contributed to the project over the years including Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Invertebrate samples were collected and analyzed at 34 sites – 32 sites in the Fountain Creek Basin as well as two sites on the Arkansas River, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. The number of sites sampled each year as well as the number of annual visits during which data were collected, and sampling methods used during each visit vary. The invertebrate data were collected between 2005 and 2023 and is intended...

Discrete snowpack data were collected during winter field campaigns from 2020 to 2022. These data were collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) Upper Colorado River Basin project focusing on the relation between snow dynamics and water resources. After a snow pit was dug, the pit face was analyzed for discrete snowpack measurements. Measurements taken were mass, temperature, and total depth. Using the mass values taken with a density cutter, the snow density and snow water equivalent were calculated. These data are released in a comma separated value file.
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities, has been collecting topographic data annually since 2012 at 10 study areas along Fountain Creek, Colorado. The 10 study areas are located along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs and the confluence of Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River in Pueblo. This data release presents topographic survey data, Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) survey data, elevation rasters, and elevation-change rasters collected or generated in 2023 as part of that monitoring effort. Topographic survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK-GNSS). These point data, along with lidar point clouds, were used to...
Discrete snow data were collected during multiple winter field campaigns from 2021 to 2022. This data was collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) project focusing on the relation between snow dynamics and the water cycle of a basin. A Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) Coring Tube was used to measure snow depth and mass of snow within the core. These values were used to calculate snow density and snow water equivalent of the core. These data were released in a comma separated value file.
