The grizzly bear distribution boundary represents the estimated geographic extent of occupied range of the Yellowstone grizzly bear population for the period 2008-2022. The distribution boundary was delineated to provide reliable estimations of grizzly bear occupancy throughout time and for use as a monitoring tool in grizzly bear management and conservation. The boundary was delineated by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team (IGBST) using an interpolation method based on grizzly bear VHF telemetry and GPS locations as well as verified observations and signs of grizzly bears inside the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during 2008 to 2022.

Seventy 1-m x 1-m plots were randomly placed throughout the wetland unit located at Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge (Montana, USA) in summer of 2015 and the following summer (2016) post-drawdown, 62 plots were surveyed.

False positive occupancy analysis predictions with model uncertainty based on summertime data provided to support the status assessment (SSA) for Myotis septentrionalis (MYSE). The objectives outlined by the Fish and Wildlife Service’s SSA team were to estimate summertime distributions across the entire species range. Statistical analysis included five types of response data requested from the North American Bat Monitoring Program database (NABat): automatically identified stationary acoustic calls, manually vetted stationary acoustic calls, automatically identified mobile acoustic calls, manually vetted mobile acoustic calls, and capture records. Statistical analysis was for the summertime distribution modeling,...

The data were collected every year from 2011 until 2017 at the Clarno unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The areal plots were placed following a random selection of locations based on the GRTS algorithm. There was a fire documented in 2011 and interest is in assessing whether there is evidence of cheatgrass distribution or abundance increasing in the monument post-fire.

The Wyoming statewide time-stamped oil and gas wells shapefile was developed to provide a historical perspective of drilling activity for the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI). This product approximates start and stop dates for each well in Wyoming based on database attributes. These data originated from the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC). Data represent 120 years of oil and gas drilling (1900 to 2020) and will facilitate a landscape-level approach to integrated science-based assessments, resource management, and land-use decision making. Oil and gas data from WOGCC were used in a dataset previously published by Biewick in 2010 (https://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/625/). This product expands...

Using data from 288 adult and yearling female elk that were captured on 22 winter supplemental elk feedgrounds in Wyoming and monitored with GPS collars from 2007 - 2015, we fit Step Selection Functions (SSFs) during the spring abortion season and then implemented a master equation approach to translate SSFs into predictions of daily elk distribution for five plausible winter weather scenarios (from a heavy snow, to an extreme winter drought year). We predicted elk abortion events by combining elk distributions with empirical estimates of daily abortion rates, spatially varying elk seroprevalence, and elk population counts. Here we provide 1) the adult and yearling female elk GPS collar data used to fit SSFs, 2)...

This data release contains historical SnowModel (Liston and Elder, 2006) output for the Crown of the Continent and surrounding areas in Montana, USA; and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada from September 1, 1981 through August 31, 2020. Fifteen daily variables were simulated or derived for this release: (1) snow water equivalent (swed), (2) liquid precipitation (rpre), (3) solid precipitation (spre), (4) albedo (albd), (5) glacial ice melt (glmt), (6) total precipitation (prec), (7) runoff (roff), (8) snow covered area (sca), (9) snow density (sden), (10) snowmelt (smlt), (11) snow depth (snod), (12) snow sublimation (ssub), (13) air temperature (tair), (14) wind speed (wspd), and (15) wind direction (wdir).
