This layer represents historic fire perimeters within 5km of the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (CCE) from 1985 to 2010. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. For more information on the CMP and its collaborators, programs, and projects please visit: http://crownmanagers.org/This dataset was first published in November 2010.

The introduction of white pine blister rust, a fungus from Eastern Asia introduced to North America in the early 1900s, has inhibited the persistence of whitebark pine. Once white pine blister rust infects a tree, the fungus girdles branches and then main stem, eventually killing the tree. Since its introduction, white pine blister rust has continued to spread throughout North America with minimal environmental limitations. Within the Crown of the Continent ecosystem, up to 57% of trees have been infected or died due to white pine blister rust.At the time of this analysis, no geospatial data exists for white pine blister rust within the Crown landscape. However, because this rust is most abundant in cool and wet...

This layer represents streams in the Crown of the Continent with a 50km buffer. This layer has been produced by merging the “NLFLOW_1” shapefiles from relevant NHN folders obtained from GeoBase - National Hydro Network (NHN) for Canada within the CCE and the NHDFlowline shapefile for Montana,US. For more information on the CMP and its collaborators, programs, and projects...
Consistent transboundary geospatial datasets are a key piece of data in landscape health analysis. The CMP has collected, compiled, and synthesize data from a number of sources in the CCE. The initial data mining effort was for the year c2000, and there is an ongoing effort to update the geospatial datasets available for the CCE to understand both spatial and temporal landuse and landcover trends. To see information on the data mining effort for c2000 please see the Data Mining Report found in this folder

Seamless DEM for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem with a 50km buffer. This DEM was created using Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) 1 Arc-Second Global data. The SRTM DEM had nodata values in several regions, particularly mountain tops. NoData holes were filled with ASTER Global DEM Version 2. Note: While the ASTER Global DEM does not have the NoData problems, the layers derived from the ASTER DEM (ex: slope, aspect) have sensor anomalies and artifacts, especially visible in the prairie regions. Data originally in WGS 1984 Vertical height in meters DEM created 2016-Feb-09

Current as of April 4, 2013:This geodatabase contains all freely available spatial information on surface wellsites related to energy resources in the Crown of the Continent area. Due to the free nature of the data, it is of mixed quality and should not be considered inclusive of all wellsites actually in the region. Some wells may possess a “Cancelled” status and lack a drilled hole but may still represent a clearing made for the once planned activity.Alberta Source: current as of September 2009; Montana Source: 1998-2000 (Ground water wells: 2009); and British Columbia Source: 2007-2008.

This dataset shows the intercepts of roads and streams in the Crown of the Continent and a 50km buffer. This dataset has been produced by merging the “National Road Network (NRN) - AB, Alberta” shapefile obtained from GeoBase , Digital Road Atlas (DRA) of British Colombia from GeoBC and “Roads from the Montana Transportation Framework MSDI” for Montana, US Provided by Montana State Library. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. As a result of climate change, a warmer and drier climate has led to an increase in wildfire. Severe wildfires can cause whitebark pine mortality during all life stages, thus we used data on wildfire severity throughout the Crown landscape to predict where future severe fires will occur. Spatial data on wildfire severity was compiled by the CMP Hi5 Working Group technical team and ranked using a consistent categorical system based on each state/province’s assigned severity. Areas that had moderate-to-severe wildfires in the past 30 years were considered low risk.
This poster details some of the work done on the Human Modification project and was delivered as partial fulfillment of the 2014 ESRI Canada GIS Scholarship Award

Lakes bathymetry is a line feature-based layer that includes bathymetric information for selected reservoirs, lakes, and ponds in Montana. The layer is based on information collected by multiple sources including contractors with Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the Bureau of Reclamation, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Data collection methods vary over time with techniques using a variety of different equipment including manual and electronic depth soundings, use of a GPS receiver, and digitizing previously published bathymetry maps. Data were compiled at a variety of scales and resolutions, depending on the collection method used for a particular waterbody. These data are planned to be regularly...
