This multi-LCC project is designed to evaluate delivery of existing courses offered through the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) as “pilots” to enhance expertise needed within the regional context of LCC and Climate Science Center (CSC) communities. Feedback from these offsite training sessions and other strategic discussion will help identify and prioritize which tools to include in future training for staff and partners. A pre-workshop and in-person exercise was conducted by reviewing SIAS metrics and other LCC activities for products required of the LCCs, determining the process/skills/tools needed to deliver this training, and listing training opportunities that are available or needed to develop...

These are the letters SECAS liaison, Ed Carter to Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA).
In 2012 the GCPO LCC recognized that advanced web-applications would be instrumental in delivering effective LCC science products. The LCC subsequently worked with staff at the USGS Wetlands and Aquatics Research Center and the University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL) to identify opportunities for advanced applications projects. Two potential needs identified included development of an interactive web-platform to track LCC-funded science projects, and collaboration with the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to develop and implement a Forest Characterization Database to compile local and state-level forest inventory efforts that track bottomland hardwood management in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley. The products...

This project links downscaled climate data to an ecosystem model (LINKAGES) to a landscape simulator (LANDIS) to wildlife models (HSI). Collectively, these models offer a means to assess the response of wildlife to climate change - mediated through habitat.
The purpose of this Assessment is to understand how much upland hardwood forest and woodland habitat is available and what condition that habitat is currently in relative to habitat targets, or endpoints, defined in the ISA. To assess the ISA endpoints for upland hardwood systems, it was necessary that the most consistent, comprehensive, current and accurate data be used in summary and analysis. For the best possible assessment product we cross-checked geospatial datasets spanning variable time periods and data sources in the Ozark Highlands subgeography and remainder of the GCPO geography.
This project maps glade complexes from aerial imagery at fine-scale resolution and ground truths the classified data. Phase Ii covers the Arkansas Ozarks.

Habitat and demographic details and projected results from dynamic-landscape metapopulation models used to projected effects of climate change and forest restoration scenarios on the habitat availability and population growth of focal wildlife species in the Ozark Highlands. Habitat availability is described by the carrying capacity (K) of each species. Projections for base scenarios with no conservation are discussed prior to results for restoration scenarios to better understand their impact. Population responses to restoration scenarios are presented both for individual climate models and pooled across climate models.

The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Condition Index ranks pixels (10-m) according to how well they meet the Desired State for the Tidal Marsh habitat system, which is described qualitatively and quantitatively in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Higher values indicate sites closer to the Desired State. Value of 2 indicates areas appropriate for restoration but currently under an alternative land use (i.e. potential habitat). Value of 1 indicates areas projected by USGS to become Tidal Marsh under a 2-m sea-level rise scenario. Please see...
The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Management Opportunity action map for the Upland Hardwood (Woodland) habitat system ranks pixels (250-m) for 3 general classes of conservation actions. Maintenance pixels (values 7-9) are currently estimated to meet the site condition Endpoints in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Enhancement pixels (values 4-6) are those that are currently classified as Upland Hardwood (Woodland) but do not meet the site condition Endpoints in the Science Agenda. Restoration pixels (values 1-3) are those that are currently...
The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. It represents a relative ranking of HUC12 watersheds according to the quantity and quality of habitat as described in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Watersheds (HUC12) were ranked by the presence, quantity and quality of the Upland Hardwood (Woodland) habitat system (includes upland hardwood forest, oak-hickory forest, and oak-hickory woodlands) within the 5 sub-geographies of the GCPO LCC region. Once ranked, watersheds were classified (e.g., “Top 10%”) based on the proportion of the total Upland Hardwood...
A landscape level AG spawning suitability data layer was developed to screen for landscape level features indicating locations that may be suitable for AG spawning within the lower Mississippi river corridor. Suitability was determined using a combination of inundation frequency, land cover, and thermal characteristics derived from related landscape level analyses (see below). The result for each evaluation was coded to display the predicted suitability for AG spawning . Habitat suitablility was informed by an alligator gar telemetry project on the St. Catherine Creek National Wildlife Refuge south of Natchez, MS. Approximately 20 fish were tagged in 2010, 2012 and 2013 and movement patterns on the floodplain were...

The grassland condition index raster data layer assigns to each 30 meter pixel in the GCPO a condition index score generated by the presence or absence of a set of desired conditions such as patch size, vegetation height, etc. This grassland bar code layer indicates which conditions contributed to the index value score, and by how much, by use of a nine-digit code. The digits in the code represent the following input conditions in order: potential for restoration, presence of a grassland ecological system, presence of prairie (a subset of grasslands characterized by the presence or dominance of native vegetation), configuration in a patch > 100 acres, and the four site-level condition endpoints: vegetation height...

The Southeast Conservation Blueprint is a map of important areas for conservation and restoration across the Southeast and Caribbean. The Blueprint categories represent the level of value—high or medium—of healthy natural resources and their potential to benefit fish, wildlife and plants. The Blueprint is the primary product of the Southeast Conservation Adaptation Strategy (SECAS). Through SECAS, diverse partners are working together to design and achieve a connected network of lands and waters that supports thriving fish and wildlife populations and improved quality of life for people across the southeastern United States and the Caribbean. This product record includes the following:Southeast Blueprint v3.0 dataset...
