Metadata specific to this state's data is not available. The MARIS Master metadata record can be accessed to help provide general data descriptions and guidance to users. MARIS is an internet-based information sharing network that allows multiple states to provide a common set of variables via a single web interface. MARIS is not a “dataset” but rather links specific content of multiple states’ datasets. MARIS does not capture all of the information from a state’s aquatic dataset – only a subset of data collected as part of aquatic species sampling surveys. The MARIS structure was developed by a consortium of state fish and wildlife agencies and implemented through contracts with various universities. In the past,...

The persistence and degree of mercury contamination of the lower Carson River system (LCRS) have led to placement of a portion of the Carson River Basin (including Lahontan Reservoir) on the US. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Priorities List ("Superfund") for research and cleanup. The potential toxicity of mercury concentrations within the LCRS to piscivorous birds (snowy egrets, black-crowned night-herons, and double-crested cormorants) was examined from 1997-2006. This data set supports the following publications: Henny, C.J., Hill, E.F., Grove, R.A., Kaiser, J.L., 2007, Mercury and drought along the lower Carson River, Nevada- I. Snowy egret and black-crowned night-heron annual exposure to mercury,...

Georgia Department of Natural Resources contributed data to MARIS from the Georgia Wade-able Streams Fish Index of Biotic Integrity Sampling program and from Georgia Standardized Sampling program. For Georgia Wade-able Streams Fish Index of Biotic Integrety Sampling, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is engaged in a statewide effort to establish a fish index of biotic integrity (IBI) based on the state's five major ecoregions. The IBI consists of 13 metrics, and scoring criteria for the metrics are based on major river basin and watershed area as well as ecoregion. IBI scores are also reported to Georgia's regulatory agency for use in the Clean Water Act 305b/303d listing process. Data provided to MARIS...

***This dataset is superseded by Adams, M.J., Pearl, C.A., McCreary, B., Galvan, S.K., and Rowe, J.C., 2017, Oregon Spotted Frog (Rana pretiosa) Monitoring in the Oregon Cascades 2012-2016: U.S. Geological Survey data release, http://doi.org/10.5066/F7QC01NV*** This dataset contains information from visual encounter surveys conducted between 2012 and 2015 by USGS as part of an ongoing Oregon spotted frog (Rana pretiosa) monitoring effort in the Oregon Cascade Mountain Range. We surveyed 91 sites using a rotating frame design in the Klamath and Deschutes Basins, Oregon, which encompass most of the species' core extant range. Data consist of spotted frog counts aggregated by date, location, and life stage, as well...

Data were collected to describe study site characteristics and epiphytic macrolichen abundance in upland and riparian forests in the McKenzie watershed in western Oregon. All plots were within the Central Cascades Adaptive Management Area. To describe the gradient from upland mountain forests below 1000 meters elevation down to riverine riparian forests we combined 62, 0.38 hectare plots sampled by Berryman with 30 additional plots sampled by Hutchinson.
