This contain a zip folder of comma delimited (CSV) files for each of the 19 tables in the report. It is produced automatically upon compiling the R Quarto code. Column headers are difference than in the tables in the report but order is exactly the same. Refer to the report to understand meaning of the columns. Each cell of the tables contain a management index estimate or the standard error of the estimate.

This is the quality controlled YKD salinity data for fixed and random plots 2006 - 2019. These data are quality controlled using the R code in the file 'YKDsalinity_QC.R' to produce the data used for analysis and sharing ('YKDsalinity_QC.R'). These data should be what is used for analysis or distributed on request.

This is the YKD egg observation data summarized into yearly stats on mean initiation and hatch dates for various species. This file is produced from the R code eggs.R.

This R code (Nest_Cards_QC.R) is used to process the raw legacy nest card data (1985 - 2019) and produce the quality controlled legacy nest card data for analysis and sharing. This code does not quality control the double searched plots (R2 plots in 1995-99), which is done in the file ‘PrepData.R’. Basic operations include transforming missing value to a common code, transforming other variable to match the data dictionary for nest cards, and resolving non-unique observer initials. The code requires the raw data (“1985-2019_Nest Cards_10-24-19_cleaned.xlsx”) and the table of observer names (“Observer Names_1985-2019_10-24-19.xlsx”). The code writes the QC nest card file “Nest_Cards_1985_2019_QC.csv”. Mostly obseration...

This is the YKD nest card data from 1985 to 2019 produced after processing with the R script "Nest_Cards_QC.R". This file ('Nest_Cards_1985_2019_QC.csv') should be used for producing population estimates and any other analyses. This file is what should generally be distributed for YKD nest card data requests.

This is the YKD egg observation data reformatted from the nest card data ('Nest_Cards_1985_2019_QC.csv'). The file eggs.R is used to produce this data set, and then this is further summarized into yearly stats on mean initiation and hatch dates to produce the file yearstats.csv.

This report communicates survey results to the Pacific Flyway Representative for incorporation into harvest management reports and regulatory processes. This memorandum also is shared widely with partners outside the FWS. The major products are a memo, automatically generated from an R Quarto document, and 19 comma delimited table files, one for each management index and table in the memo.

Broad scale banding of midcontinent greater white-fronted geese (MCWFG) is motivated by the Flyway Management Plan objective to maintain optimum harvest opportunity throughout the population range (Central, Mississippi, and Pacific Flyway Councils, 2023). This objective is accomplished by implementing a harvest strategy whereby changes to bag limits and season dates are dependent upon thresholds of abundance and harvest rate. Such estimates are calculated through Lincoln estimation (Lincoln 1930, Alisauskas et al. 2009, Dooley 2023) that requires annual banding. In addition, banding provides a means to identify changes in harvest distribution. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Migratory Bird Management...

Annual assessment of nesting populations of geese on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD) provides information for biologists, participants in cooperative goose management plans, and Pacific Flyway technical committees. A ground-based sampling procedure has been used since 1986 to estimate the number of total nests, active nests, and eggs for cackling geese, emperor geese, greater white-fronted geese, and spectacled eiders. Annual information on the size of the nesting population and potential number of young produced contributes long term data needed to understand goose and eider population ecology and better manage these species. The survey has been the primary method of measuring recovery status for the western population...

Duck banding data is integral to the Adaptive Harvest Management (AHM) process that uses both band recovery data and aerial breeding population survey data to establish hunting regulatory packages each year. Mallard banding in Alaska is one component of the process to set hunting regulations for ducks in the Pacific Flyway by providing harvest rate estimates for the Western Mallard AHM model (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 2021). Harvest rate is used in coordination with breeding population size estimates from the Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey to determine the optimal regulatory strategy (liberal, moderate, restrictive, or closed) for dabbling ducks in the Pacific Flyway. Each regulatory alternative...

In the 1960s, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Alaska Region Migratory Bird Management (MBM-AK) developed a protocol for aerial Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) and Tundra Swan (C. columbianus) abundance surveys in Alaska that was used by several government agencies and private entities through 2015. This standardized survey protocol allowed data collected by these diverse organizations to be stored together in a common digital archival system called the Alaska Swan Database, which is maintained by MBM-AK. Contributions to the database ranged from relatively small, localized surveys to the statewide quinquennial Alaska Trumpeter Swan Survey. Survey timing was either the spring nesting period or late summer...

This project is an annual communicating memo explicitly designed to inform the Pacific Flyway Representative of waterfowl survey results for incorporation of the data into harvest management reports and regulatory processes. This memorandum is additionally shared widely with partners outside the USFWS. The major products are an annual reporting memo–automatically generated from an R Quarto document, and 19 species-specific comma delimited table files that appear in the memo, and the generating qmp code. Subsequent child items include the annual products.

This multi-layer GeoPackage (“VCF_AnalysisStrata”) contains density layers that stratify spectacled eiders into low, medium, and high density classes on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Coastal Zone over two time periods: 1985-1994 and 1995-2015. The (“SPEI_1985to1994_6strata”) and (“SPEI_1995to2015_6strata”) layers were created using ground-based nest data that was log-transformed, interpotated by ordinary kriging methods, and classified into low (0-1.60 km^2), medium (1.60-3.50 km^2), and high (>3.50 km^2) nest density classes. Different visibility correction factors (VCFs) were calculated for each density strata based on the relationship between the nest and aerial survey data. These correction factors are used to produce...

This is a geojson file that define the spatial polygon of the YKD nest plot study area. From 1998 to current, nest plot centroids are randomly selected from this area with the constraint that plots cannot overlap plots from the previous 5 years. This area also defined the area of inference for design-based calculations of nest population estimates. Before 1998, larger areas were sampled, so this file does not apply to those years.

This is the raw nest card data as transcribed from the hard copy nest cards used in the field, 1985 to 2019. No attempt has been made for quality control on these data. These data are quality control using the R code in the file ‘Nest_Cards_QC.R’ to produce the data used for population estimate in file ‘Nest_Cards_1985_2019_QC.csv’. These data should not generally be used or distributed other than when the quality control process is revised and downstream data file need to be recreated (i.e., information is needed from these raw data that is not represented in the quality control files).

From 1981 to 2009, MBM-AK collaborated with its partner, U.S. Forest Service Cordova Ranger District, to conduct spring nesting and late-summer trumpeter swan surveys on the Copper River Delta, Alaska. An annual summary report was produced by MBM-AK. As of the date that this metadata was written, only the 2004-2009 reports were available in digital format and archived in the FWS Alaska Regional Data Repository (AK_Swan_Database project). All the reports in paper format are available upon request from MBM-AK (see contact information elsewhere in this metadata).
