This data collection consists of a synthetic stream network and associated catchments developed as the foundation for a Spatially Referenced Regressions on Watershed Attributes (SPARROW) dissolved-solids source and transport model for the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB). The SPARROW model requires a hydrologically connected representation of a stream network through which loads are transported from an upstream reach to the next reach downstream (Schwarz and others, 2006; Moore and others, 2004). Each stream reach or segment within this synthetic stream network has an associated local drainage area or catchment used to calculate catchment characteristics that may have an effect on loads being modeled. The synthetic...

This polygon shapefile represents model simulated flood-inundation extents for the Muddy River, near Moapa Nevada. A flood frequency analysis was performed at USGS streamgage 09416000 - Muddy River near Moapa, Nevada, to estimate the 50, 20, 10, 4, 2, and 1-percent annual exceedance probability (AEP) flood streamflows. The flood-inundation extents for the 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, and 1-percent AEP floods were simulated for the current levee location in 2019 and for the new levee location of the proposed restoration. One model simulation represents the levee at its current (existing) location in 2019 on the east bank of the river and referred to as ‘current conditions (2019).’ A second model simulation removes the...

This digital raster dataset represents depth to pre-Cenozoic bedrock in northern Nevada as published in Chapter 6: Geophysical Methods and Application in U.S. Geological Survey Bulletin 2218, Assessment of Metallic and Mineral Resources in the Humboldt River Basin, Northern Nevada by D.A. Ponce. The data are represented on figure 6-9 in this publication and were later provided as raster format geospatial digital data via written communication from D.A. Ponce in 2007. The data have been reprojected but are otherwise as provided. A thorough explanation of the production methods is available in the larger work.

This point shapefile contains positional data for 2,205 locations at the Muddy River, near Moapa, Nevada, April 1 to August 9, 2019. Positional data were collected using either a single-base real-time kinematic (RTK) global navigation satellite system (GNSS) or a total station. The survey data primarily were used to define 105 cross-sections, with a secondary use as vertical precision verification for lidar data.

This polygon shapefile represents the boundaries of the current (2019) and proposed levee locations used to simulate flood-inundation extents for the at Muddy River, near Moapa, Nevada. The new levee location is proposed as part of a river restoration plan for selected reaches of the Muddy River.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release consists of a spreadsheet presenting high-frequency water levels in feet below a measuring point (MP) at Devils Hole in Nye County, Nevada. Water-level data are collected at USGS site 362532116172701 by the National Park Service, using a data logger programmed to collect water-level every 15 minutes or every 5 seconds when a water-level change greater than 0.015 feet is detected. Data are analyzed, approved, and audited according to USGS standards as described in U.S. Geological Survey Office of Surface Water memo 2017.10. Continuous 15-minute data are published in the National Water Information System (NWIS) database. Irregular periods of 5-second data collected during...

This point shapefile contains positional data for seven static reference locations collected at the Muddy River, near Moapa, Nevada, March 29 to August 9, 2019. Positional data were collected at seven temporary benchmarks using 14 single-baseline online positioning user service – static (OPUS-S) global navigation satellite system (GNSS) surveys. Data were collected using Leica Viva GS14 or TopCon GR-3 GNSS receivers. Processing of static observations was done using the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) online positioning user system (OPUS).

This USGS data release represents the evapotranspiration units and potential areas of groundwater discharge geospatial data from the following publication: Plume, R.W., and Smith, J.L., 2013, Properties of basin-fill deposits, a 1971–2000 water budget, and surface-water-groundwater interactions in the upper Humboldt River basin, northeastern Nevada: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2013-5077, 38 p., http://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2013/5077/. The data set consists of 2 separate items: 1. evapotranspiration units 2. potential areas of groundwater discharge

This generalized geology dataset was developed as input to a total dissolved solids Spatially Referenced Regressions on Watershed Attributes (SPARROW) model for the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB; Kenney and others, 2009) and for a more recent update to that model. The largest source of naturally generated dissolved solids in streams of the UCRB is the rocks underlying stream basins, particularly rocks high in dissolvable minerals. For the purposes of modeling, the scale of the geologic dataset optimally should be similar to the scale of the stream-catchment network used in the model but simplified to reduce the number of geologic units represented in the data. This dataset was developed to meet both scale and...

This model archive contains all relevant files to run and document the Hydrological Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) coupled one and two-dimensional hydraulic model used to simulate flood-inundation extents for the Muddy River, near Moapa, Nevada. The HEC-RAS model was applied to simulate flood-inundation extents for a current (2019) levee location and for a new location location proposed as part of a river restoration plan. The model archive includes information on: 1) stage-streamflow rating used for model calibration (calibration_targets); 2) the model run and output files (model_files); and 3) the 32-bit executable installation file for HEC-RAS 6.1 used to run the simulations (HEC-RAS_61.Setup.exe);...

This data release consists of four directories: GroundwaterWithdrawals, Precipitation, WaterLevelDatabase, and WLMs. The GroundwaterWithdrawals directory contains a Microsoft Excel workbook with groundwater withdrawal data from 1996-2015 for water-supply wells in Beatty and Bullfrog Hills, Nye County, Nevada. The Precipitation directory contains four Microsoft Excel workbooks with data from precipitation stations and analyses used to construct long-term precipitation index records. The WaterLevelDatabase directory contains a Microsoft Excel workbook with hydrographs and well information for the 79 wells analyzed in the larger work. The WLMs directory contains 11 water-level models that were used to determine hydrologic...

These data are derived from the Basin Characterization Model (BCM) and used as input to a total dissolved solids SPARROW model for the Upper Colorado River Basin. The BCM mechanistically models the pathways of precipitation into evapotranspiration, infiltration into soils, runoff, or percolation below the root zone to recharge groundwater (Flint and others, 2013). The dataset is composed of twelve, 270-meter resolution raster layers representing mean total annual values for water years 1985 - 2012 of actual evapotranspiration (aet), climatic water deficit (cwd), excess water (exc), snowmelt (mlt), snowpack (pck), potential evapotranspiration (pet), precipitation (ppt), recharge (rch), runoff (run), sublimation (sbl),...
