For 7 species: American woodcock (amwo), Bicknell's thrush (bith), Blackburnian warbler (blbw), Box turtle (teca), Cerulean warbler (cerw), Moose (moose), and Saltmarsh sparrow (sals) we provide five distinct datasets. Species codes (in parenthesis) are used in file names and represented by "[species]" below. 1. A set of conservation cores that represent areas of high local, relative value to the species either in the present, the future, or both: [species]_allcores.shp 2. Conductance among the present condition cores: [species]_conduct.tif 3. Conductance among the future cores: [species]_conduct_futr.tif 4. The landscape capability of the species in 2020 (an input dataset to this analysis): [species]_LC_2020_v5.1.tif...

FY2016This project will evaluate the effects of vegetation treatments on population connectivity, genetic diversity and gene flow of wildlife species across the full extent of the Great Basin LCC. The recently approved BLM and Forest Service Land Use Plan Amendments will implement millions of acres of treatments in support of greater sage-grouse conservation. It is essential to evaluate the potential benefits and risks of these treatments on the connectivity and fragmentation of the landscape for multiple non-target species. We will use a dynamic landscape model to simulate fire and treatments, allowing each to vary by type (e.g., juniper removal, prescribed fire), extent, and influence on vegetation and fuels....

To evaluate the potential effects of climate change on wildlife habitat and ecological integrity in the northeastern United States from 2010 to 2080, a University of Massachusetts Amherst team derived a set of climate projections at a fine spatial resolution for the entire Northeast. The projections are based upon publicly available climate models. This dataset represents projections of the total average annual precipitation (mm/year) using one of two IPCC greenhouse gas concentration scenarios (RCP8.5). The dataset is intended to represent typical total annual precipitation expected for the year 2060. Detailed documentation for all of the UMass climate datasets is available from: http://jamba.provost.ads.umass.edu/web/lcc/DSL_documentation_climate.pdf...

We identified a set of cores for each species that include areas of high relative value to the species either in the present, the future, or both. We assessed and mapped the connections between each nearby pair of cores (both in the future and present) and used the pairwise connectivities to assemble a graph of connections and to score each core’s connectivity in the present and future. Finally, we created an overall score that combines the landscape capability value, the climate refugia value, and the connectivity of each core which we think is a good starting point for conservation of each species. In general we found that the highest habitat values, connectivity, and scores were concentrated both towards the...

FY2015This effort complements a project, supported by the Joint Fire Science Program, to explore relations among cheatgrass-driven fire, climate, and sensitive-status birds across the Great Basin. With support from the NW and SW Climate Science Centers and the GB CESU, we aim to engage managers at local, state, and regional levels, and to involve both field-level and director-level personnel, during all stages of the proposed project. Our methods of engagement are intended to save managers time and decrease some of the uncertainty in planning and decision-making rather than to create additional pressures on managers time. We will conduct field visits, workshops, and interactive briefings to build trust and increase...
