The ShoreZone in the Classroom Curriculum Implementation project built upon the ShoreZone in the Classroom Pilot Networking Trip. Educational Consultant Marie Acemah liaised over email and in-person at the North Slope School District (NSBSD) Curriculum Camp in Barrow to develop Curricular Units that make ShoreZone available as an educational tool in NSBSD classrooms. This project resulted in two Units, specifically: 1) Coastal Ecosystems Unit; and 2) Documentary Filmmaking Summer Intensive Proposal. The ShoreZone tool is now available and accessible throughout the NSBSD district. The District and the Ilusagvik College are interested in partnering with ShoreZone to lead for-credit summer documentary film camps in...
This project uses previously collected ShoreZone imagery to map nearly 1,600 km of coastline between Wales and Kotzebue. With additional mapping supported by the Arctic LCC and National Park Service, this effort will complete the Kotzebue Sound shoreline, which will be included in the state-wide ShoreZone dataset. The complete ShoreZone dataset will be used to conduct a coastal hazards analysis and create maps that identify areas undergoing rapid coastal erosion and areas that are sensitive to inundation by storm surge and sea level rise.
This project is focused on establishing a statewide framework to improve the hydrography mapping and stewardship in Alaska. This will be acheived through the creation of a statewide system to make digital mapping data updates accessible and affordable, and through the creation of a statewide hydrography mapping coordinator position to synchronize updates and guide hydrography mapping development. This framework will allow agencies and organizations to greatly improve their hydrography mapping data, as well as consume and uplift project level hydrography data that would not otherwise be incorporated.

Information on geomorphological andbiological features for 1,095 km of shoreline mapped from the 2013 coastalimaging survey of St. Lawrence Island. The habitat inventory is comprised of 1,994along-shore segments (units), averaging 550 m in length (note that the AK Coast1:63,360 digital shoreline shows this mapping area encompassing 908 km, butmapping data based on better digital shorelines represent the same area with 1,095km stretching along the coast).

The Arctic LCC and National Park Service has partnered together to complete a ShoreZone imagining and mapping project for the entire coastline, lagoons inclusive, from Point Hope to Wales in Northwestern Alaska. The ShoreZone Mapping System uses oblique aerial imagery and field data from ShoreStations to classify coastline habitats based on geological and biological attributes. ShoreZone products are made available to the public through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Website.
The Alaska Data Integration Working Group (ADIwg) Metadata Toolkit is an open source, suite of web applications for authoring and editing metadata for both spatial and non-spatial projects and datasets. The main goal of the toolkit is to promote the creation and use of metadata by lowering the level of technical expertise required to produce archival quality metadata.mdJSON is the metadata format ties the suite of tools together. The mdEditor is an open source client-side web application design to allow users to manage metadata for projects and data products. The mdEditor may be used to create mdJSON and interface with the mdTranslator to output metadata in multiple standards, including ISO 19115-2, 19115-1, 19110,...

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) initiated the development of an Arctic Coastal Impressions booklet and photographic exhibit. In the exhibit, there were dozens of spectacular photos of the Arctic coastline. The images were collected along 10,000 km (6,000 mi) of shoreline in Alaska during 2012 and 2013. Many of the images were selected for their artistic composition – sculpted shapes, mosaics of colors or juxtaposition of odd features. They also provide insight into how coastal landforms develop and the significance of these features within the broader Arctic ecosystem. Each image has a story to tell and interpretive materials will accompany the collection.

Federal land managers, non-governmental organizations, and industry have been developing ecological land classifications at regional and landscape-level for Alaska to aid in ecosystem management. An ecoregion map that covers the entire state was produced by Nowacki et al. (2002). At the landscape level, ecological subsection mapping has been done for all National Park Service (NPS) and Forest Service lands in Alaska. In northern Alaska, a portion of the North Slope has been mapped at the ecological subsection level by industry (Jorgenson et al. 2003). In the Brooks Range, similar mapping has been done for National Parks and Preserves at Cape Krusenstern (Swanson 2001), Noatak (Jorgenson et al. 2002), and Gates of...
