Abstract Dams have been a fundamental part of the U.S. national agenda over the past two hundred years. Recently, however, dam removal has emerged as a strategy for addressing aging, obsolete infrastructure and more than 1,100 dams have been removed since the 1970s. However, only 130 of these removals had any ecological or geomorphic assessments, and fewer than half of those included before- and after-removal (BAR) studies. In addition, this growing, but limited collection of dam-removal studies is limited to distinct landscape settings. Uses direct output files of Aquatic Gap Analysis Program (AGAP) fish distribution models and National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) 2010 Habitat Condition Indicies (HCI) to make summarized conclusions of stream condition and fish biological potential for Level 3 Ecoregions across the Conterminous United States (CONUS). Initial AGAP and NFHP products were represented at the local catchment scale of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 1 (NHDPlusV1). Summaries of fish habitat condition for ecological and jurisdictional spatial units that are commonly used for management decisions. Data from the National Fish Habitat Partnership's (NFHP) 2015 National Assessment were summarized from National Hydrography Dataset PlusV1 (NHDPlusV1; 1:100,000 scale) stream reaches to larger ecological and jurisdicitonal spatial units. A length-weighted average approach was used to summarize information. Summarization processes are documented in this repository. Human impacts occurring throughout the Northeast and Midwest United States, including urbanization, agriculture, and dams, have multiple effects on the region’s streams which support economically valuable stream fishes. Changes in climate are expected to lead to additional impacts in stream habitats and fish assemblages in multiple ways, including changing stream water temperatures. The stream systems of Hawai‘i are unique and home to many rare species, including five native fish and five native shellfish. These native species have amphidromous life cycles, meaning that they spend part of their lives in the ocean and part in freshwater streams. The overall goal of the Midwestern regional-scale assessment was to identify river reaches in the Glacial Lakes Partnership regions (focusing on Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) that are most vulnerable to potential impacts of projected climate and land use changes. One goal of the National Scale Assessment included identifying regions and associated river reaches across the United States that are most vulnerable to projected climate and land use changes. As an initial attempt to characterize river system vulnerability, we followed the definition posed by Kasperson et al.
