Problem– Lake Ontario experienced period-of-record (1918-2017) maximum monthly average water levels during May through July 2017. NOAA lake gages recorded instantaneous peaks-of record, 249.2 at Olcott, 249.1 at Rochester, and 249.0 at Oswego and St. Vincent. These high water levels along with wind-generated waves caused flooding of thousands of residences and businesses and the erosion of miles of shoreline along the southern and eastern shorelines of the Lake. During the second week of July 2017, the USGS installed 14 temporary water-level gages and monitored this flooding through the lake’s recession. This network of water-level gages, in combination with the NOAA sites, provides a dense coverage of the lake...

This CSV file contains landscape factors representing anthropogenic disturbances to stream habitats summarized within 6th level Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC12) watersheds of the Watershed Boundary Dataset. The source datasets compiled and attributed to spatial units were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fluvial fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) broadly representative of conditions in the past 10 years, and (4) of sufficient spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons among local catchment units. Variables summarized at the HUC12 scale include measures of anthropogenic land uses, population density, roads, dams,...
Static flood inundation boundary extents were created along the entire shoreline of Lake Ontario in Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, and Wayne Counties in New York by using recently acquired (2007, 2010, 2014, and 2017) light detection and ranging (lidar) data. The flood inundation maps, accessible through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Program website at https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources/science/flood-inundation-mapping-fim-program, depict estimates of the areal extent and water depth of shoreline flooding in 8 segments corresponding to adjacent water-surface elevations (stages) at 8 USGS lake gages on Lake Ontario. This item includes data sets for segment D - Lake Ontario...

Basic information about the planetary surface of the Kuiper quadrangle is provided by three sequences of high-quality photographs designated Mercury I, II, and II, obtained during the incoming phases of three encounters of the Mariner 10 spacecraft with Mercury. Mercury I includes 75 whole-frame photographs of the Kuiper quadrangle; Mercury II, 13 whole-frame photographs; and Mercury III, 70 quarter-frame photographs. The photographs include 19 stereopairs in the southern part of the quadrangle. The most distant of the photographs was taken at an altitude of 89,879 km, the closest at an altitude of 7,546 km. Resolution, therefore, varies widely but ranges from about 1.5 to 2.0 km over most of the area.

This data set contains vector point information. The original data set was collected through visual field observation by Jennke Visser (University of Louisiana-Lafayette). The observations were made while flying over the study area in a helicopter. Flight was along north/south transects spaced 2000 meters apart from the Texas / Louisiana State line to Corpus Christie Bay. Vegetative data was obtained at pre-determined stations spaced at 1500 meters along each transect. The stations were located using a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a computer running ArcGIS. This information was recorded manually onto field tally sheets and later this information was entered into a Microsoft Excel database using Capturx software...

This shapefile is the official boundary of the Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership. The boundary was originally developed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and was updated in 2013 to reflect revisions from the Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership, a recognized Fish Habitat Partnership (FHP) of the National Fish Habitat Partnership.

Mariner 10 photographic coverage was available for only the eastern two-thirds of the Tolstoj quadrangle. Image data from three Mariner 10 encounters with Mercury were used in mapping the quadrangle.

Changes in tidal marsh area and habitat type in response to sea-level rise were modeled using the Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM 6) that accounts for the dominant processes involved in wetland conversion and shoreline modifications during long-term sea level rise (Park et al. 1989; Successive versions of the model have been used to estimate the impacts of sea level rise on the coasts of the U.S. The model was produced by Warren Pinnacle Consulting, Inc. for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The SLAMM version 6 technical document can be accessed at http://warrenpinacle.com/prof/SLAMM. SLAMM outputs were converted from raster to vector features. Land cover (wetland) types were generalized to MesoHabitat...

Metadata: synthmap08.zip, 69,967kB, 11 March 2008. Feature type: ArcGRID. Completeness of data: 100% of Nevada plus edges of adjacent states. Currency of data: various, up to winter 2007/08; updates are expected in the future. Scale at which data are believed to meet National Map Accuracy Standards: 1:100,000 in most areas. Key attributes: International Vegetation Classification (IVC) types at ecological system, alliance, and association levels, with additional fields indicating the IVC level, IVC code, and origin of the data. See the accompanying documentation on our Library page. An ArcGIS layer file is included for convenient display symbology. The data table is included as an Excel file as well.
